Rising Stars: Meet Lauren Peeler of Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Peeler.

Hi Lauren , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, my summers visiting family in Chicago involved helping out in my cousin’s salon, sparking my love for hairstyling and inspiring me to become an owner. I was drawn to the creativity with hair and the salon’s welcoming atmosphere where women could relax and express themselves. I also pursued my dream of becoming an All-American in track and field, achieving that goal with All-American status in the long jump in 2001, ranking 9th in Texas and 22nd nationally. After exploring other paths in college, I returned to my first love – hair. In 2009, I enrolled at Contessa Rol Beauty School in Glendale Plaza. After passing my state board exam following the birth of my daughter, Afrobabii Boutique was born, fueled by my passion for helping women embrace their natural beauty. I fell in love with locs and decided to specialize in this service, as well as color.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. While getting my licenses, I became pregnant with my daughter. My family was a big help, but providing for my family and building my clientele was very slow. Finding the right home for a salon was also a challenge.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a licensed cosmetologist, I specialize in locs, natural hair, and color. I am known for my knowledge of hair and locs. I am most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients, both new and old. I provide a service that has become popular in the last couple of years, but I’m a veteran to it. What sets me apart is my love for continuously learning how to perfect my craft for my clients, as they come to me for guidance in the right direction for their natural hair care and color needs.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support me by following me on social media @afrobabii_boutique. I offer one-on-one natural hair courses and the Loc Academy, a self-paced course featuring my curriculum for those looking to learn locs and natural hair techniques.
