Rising Stars: Meet Lee Ann Murray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Ann Murray.

Hi Lee Ann, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Orlando, I was always interested in hospitality & tourism, so I majored in Hospitality Management at Florida State University and ended up double majoring in Marketing. After graduation, I worked at the Four Seasons Palm Beach and eventually settled into advertising agencies for the majority of my career until 2018, when I came to work at Traders Village (or what they call in the industry the “client-side”).

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hospitality and agency life require long hours, late nights, and constant travel, so if you are looking for a smooth road, pick a different career! It’s perfect for me though; I would be bored doing anything else.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the Director of Marketing at Traders Village, the largest flea market in the country. There is no typical day for me, I work on multiple projects across multiple markets, my schedule is ever-changing depending on the business needs. I can be in 3 cities in 1 day or another country filming! I collaborate with a lot of fun and interesting people; designers, influencers, artists, musicians, and many Dallas media partners. We’ve had an incredibly busy and exciting last couple years at Traders Village. We opened the Prairie Screamer, our new roller coaster, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary, and we just purchased Western Playland, an amusement park outside of El Paso. Every marketer’s dream is to work on projects like these that are challenging and unique.

I tend to have a lot of creative whims, much to the fear and amusement of my co-workers. Conversations with my boss have been known to start with, “I had an epiphany in the shower… we should film our next TV commercial in Mexico City!”

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
That’s easy to sum up, “What work I have done, I have done because it has been play. If it had been work, I shouldn’t have done it.” – Mark Twain
