Meet Leittia Knight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leittia Knight.

Hi Leittia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Authenticity Movement was birthed from a single and significant encounter with my 4-year-old daughter A’Mya, in 2011. During this encounter, A’Mya did not hesitate to inform me (when asked), how I was doing as a single parent. Her response sent me on a journey into self-discovery, to be the Mom that she needed me to be, from moment to moment. In order for me to truly accomplish this, I had to learn to not only accept but embrace my authentic self. It was around this time that I encountered the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, which absolutely change the trajectory of my life and introduced me to mindfulness and the practice of meditation.

As I learned more about mindfulness and began to witness the profound impact that living in the present moment was having on my life, I wanted to share this not so secret, secret with others. This is when I began to teach small classes in my home and at community centers. In 2017, Authenticity Movement officially became a mobile mindfulness meditation business, meeting people of all ages right where they are. In 2019, I completed my Mindful Meditation Teacher certification through the Mindfulness Center in Bethesda, Maryland and had also completed many hours of Youth Mindfulness training through Mindful Schools. I am also an official mindfulness vendor for Keller ISD.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road from there to here has definitely not been without it struggles. I can say that the biggest obstacle has been Self. I speak this truth with love, because truth be told we all have obstacles that can slow or in some cases, stop us from realizing our full potential. The blessing is, we already have everything in us that is needed to overcome and be who it is our Creator designed us to be. We just have to be about the business of remembering!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love combining my background in Laboratory Medicine with the Science of mindfulness to bring additional insight into the inner workings of the mind and how our thoughts affect our physical, emotional and psychological well being. Authenticity Movement offers various Mindfulness and Meditation classes and workshops as well as the healing vibrations of Sound Meditation as well. I jokingly say that we serve the ages of 0-100 years of age as I am a true lover of all people! What makes me most proud about the Authenticity Movement is the person who inspired the vision, my daughter A’Mya. Not only is she a co-founder of Authenticity Movement, she is also our media manager and the face of the business. The Authenticity Movement logo is her.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a child, I always had a passion for assisting others in the process of healing. This passion deepend my love for Science and obtaining knowledge as to how the human body reacts to and heals from dis-ease. I would spend countless hours studying encyclopedia’s or whatever book I could get my hands on that would help me to better understand the complexities of the human body.

At an early age I would find myself diagnosing my own illnesses or the illnesses of others from what I had learned. My Mom gifted me my first microscope around the age of ten years old, which I still have displayed in my home office today. As you can tell, healing and space holding has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. I have also always been a hard and diligent worker, taking on my first paying job at the age of 11 years old, cleaning the home of our church’s piano player. Needless to say, I have been working ever since. With all of that said, you might think that I have an overly serious, type- personality. In reality, I am as silly as they come! I don’t take myself too seriously at all, I love to laugh! Laughter connects me to the present moment, which in itself is Medicine.
