Rising Stars: Meet Lina Mapes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lina Mapes.

Hi Lina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I found profound love of music and songwriting around six years ago; like any kid, I had a lot of dreams into different areas that I tried while I grew up. But the second I began a true vocal lesson was the moment I realized that music, lyrics, and my sound were a true passion. They have always been my outlet for my emotions and all of the moments of my life. I just graduated high school, but I’ve been working in the music industry as a performer, songwriter, and recording artist for the past four years. I love words, I love emotions, which has led to my intense love for songwriting. I write from an emotional place, and I’ve always intended to connect to others through my music. Over the last couple of years, I’ve emerged myself in songwriting, production, piano, and vocal classes, in Dallas as well other areas around the country. My first song, “Off Guard,” talked what it is like to lose someone suddenly and the topic of mental health and the emotions left behind in regards to those issues. I released my first EP last year in August called “Introspection,” the project being a true journey inside myself as a person and an artist. That EP was more for myself and my growth as an artist, and my newest release, May 2023, entitled “Price of Passion,” speaks to those feelings that we all have when we go through a situation to learn that love always isn’t enough. It stood out to me that this is a timeless lesson we all learn, and we worked hard to produce the song where it would speak to its timeless nature. Anyone who has ever loved and not had it work out will certainly be able to relate to “Price of Passion.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trying to manage being a teen, in public high school, and being young trying to run my own business has been an obstacle. It hasn’t been easy being a teen and having to choose my passion over all the other elements of my life at the time. Learning to manage my time, my schedule, and my mental health so that I can be moving forward in my artistry and as myself as a person. Fortunately, I have been lucky enough to have found an amazing team of professionals, who some have been with me since the very beginning and some I picked up along the way. Together, I now have a truly collaborative experience and am able to reach out and use members of my team as a sounding board and an extension to build my artistry. I have been truly blessed it have worked and mentored with some amazing different artist and professionals who have all helped me to get to where I am today and continue to assist me on my journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My soulful sultry sound is what I am most known for, as well as my amazing ability to put pen to paper when it comes to lyric and melody. As well, people always tell me how pleasantly surprised how easy I am to work with.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I would always have my love of words, but I would never be the artist that I am and that I continue to grow as without the assistance of some really important people. Brielle Pogue of Pogue Entertainment Group here in Dallas has been my vocal teacher, mentor, and friend throughout my journey into music. She has been a key component of my core team and continues to offer her guidance and expertise. I am love performer and enjoy performing out around Dallas, and I would never be able to do that without the help of my amazing guitarist and manager Antoine Brailsford. Some of the other members of my team, Haley Carter, Sarah Badran, and Eclipse Darkness, have been as well key people as well as many others I have been able to push forward and become a better artist day after day.
