Rising Stars: Meet Liza Wilk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liza Wilk.

Hi Liza, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started acting really young, around 4 or 5. My mom, who was a theater and dance teacher all growing up and now has her own theater company, was my first acting teacher. I fell in love with the art, doing church plays, school plays, and dancing/ acting in The Nutcracker. The love for TV/Film came at 16. Once I was in front of the camera, I knew it was my ultimate passion and calling. It hasn’t been a smooth road, there have been so many times when I wanted to step away, but I keep going because I love it so deeply and have a message to share with the world. I will not stop until my full dreams are accomplished.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Biggest struggles are feeling like I am working myself to the bone every day and not getting compensated for the countless auditions, and not getting feedback to know if you are on the right path on your auditions or not. You have to keep hustling and training every day; as an actor you are selling the whole package, so you have to keep your mind, body, and spirit ready, confident, and peaceful. Ultimately, trust yourself, your talent and be yourself- even if it is going against what is popular at the moment. These are all hard things to do when you have zero bookings and your personal life is in shambles, yet as an actor, you have to be emotionally mature enough to separate that all and still do the art vulnerable and impeccable.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actress known for TV/Film. You might recognize me from the popular Netflix film “Full Out 2: You Got This!” You can also see me as the lead in a beautiful 1940’s WWII film on Amazon Prime, “Walking Point,” or series “Vindication.” I have a very exciting new 1800s western coming out very soon, “Dawn at Dominion,” so be on the lookout for its release soon! I love to play strong female leads with determination, independence yet vulnerable strength. I am most proud of my work yet to come, I have so much art to share I am bursting with excitement to show it.

What matters most to you? Why?
Important stories and characters that others can identify with. To help others feel less alone, seen, to laugh, and help them get through this life which is so beautiful yet so heart-wrenching. Also, I am a huge advocate for equality in film for women and the #metoo movement. Men who prey on women in this industry has to be no more. Women are rising up to say, WE ARE STRONG, and WE ARE DONE WITH ABUSE. I would love to tell these stories of the strong women who paved the way for me to be doing what I am today, and I am doing my duty of paving the way even more for actresses and women as a whole in this world.
