Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisol Castro.
Hi Marisol, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Why Opened House of Spin
One night, I was lying in bed thinking about which studio I’d go to for my next cycling class. I started reflecting on what I loved and didn’t love about other studios. I’ve always loved the energy of the club scene — the lights, the music, the fun — and I thought, what if I created a club-style space where people could feel those same vibes while working out?
I wanted to build a place where moms and anyone needing a reset could come, feel good, relive musical flashbacks, and have fun while getting a great workout. At first, I doubted myself — I wasn’t an instructor and didn’t feel “ready.” But then I thought, why not? I could bring my vision to life by building a team of amazing instructors. That night, I started sketching out my ideas.
A few days later, over lunch with a friend, I mentioned my secret dream, and immediately encouraged me to go for it. I started searching for a space, created the name, and even formed my LLC. But when I couldn’t find the right location, my dream had to pause in March 2024. I couldn’t find bikes, and every space I toured felt like I’d have to settle for something I didn’t truly want. Deep down, I knew the timing wasn’t right.
When it finally was the right time, everything aligned exactly how I had drawn it out and envisioned it. Off the side of the freeway — literally the spot I once thought was taken — I found a downtown location that was perfect. Twenty-one bikes, an entrance that felt like a club check-in, the whole vibe I dreamed of came to life effortlessly. It was clear this was God’s plan, not mine.
Then in August, life shifted — I was let go from my job. I was heartbroken, but something in me knew it was time to revisit my dream. Not long after, a former client reached out needing help. When I told her I was no longer with the company, she asked what I planned to do next. I told her my crazy idea — to open my own studio — and she said, “Really? Can I help you?” That moment was divine timing.
Everything started falling into place exactly how God intended. I kept it all a secret — from signing the lease to decorating the studio late into the nights. I didn’t tell anyone until a week before my big announcement. I invited my closest friends and family to the address, and when they arrived, I revealed my secret project: House of Spin.
They had plenty of questions, but my vision and passion had all the answers. I believed in myself, trusted God’s timing, and watched my dream come to life. Since then, I’ve been blessed with an incredible team — past and present — who helped me grow this dream into something beautiful.
House of Spin isn’t just a cycling studio. It’s a space built from faith, fun, and the belief that when you trust your calling, amazing things happen. I aspired to create a space that feels like a true community — one that celebrates inclusivity and diversity, welcoming everyone regardless of age, gender or race.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I did run into struggling. As soon as I was ready to hire instructors, I could not find any! I got my keys on October 6 and spent countless hours preparing for my grand opening in November but still couldn’t find instructors at all. Finally, I decided to use hashtags online — and that’s how I found an instructor who I hired and who helped me bring people on board to fill the studio with instructors. She also shared valuable input from her experience in cycling, which helped shape the early foundation of House of Spin. We had a successful Grand opening Dec 7.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My confidence comes from the pride I take in being a true people person and a strong networker. I’ve worked in sales my entire life, spending years in retail and the past 12 years as an Account Executive in telecommunications. My success in that field came from experience, dedication, and understanding what it takes to build lasting relationships. I’ve been able to take everything I’ve learned—networking, marketing, and keeping people happy as customers—and apply it directly to my own business. Currently I work full time for T-Mobile Business Mon to Friday 8-5 and house of Spin the rest of the time all while still being a mom of 4.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
“When you think it’s the right time and it’s not happening, remember — God already knows the date. Don’t be discouraged. When He gives it to you, be ready for a roller coaster of emotions — the excitement, the joy, but also the critics and the hate. We don’t talk about that enough. Everyone says opening a business is hard, but the real challenge is staying grounded in your why. No matter what obstacles come your way, remind yourself: YOU are the most confident person to run a successful business — even in the hard times.” Lastly always, always Remember your why!
