Rising Stars: Meet Maritza Avellaneda Martínez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maritza Avellaneda Martínez.

Hi Maritza, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Flowers have always been a part of my life I have very fond memories of playing in my grandfather’s garden in Michoacan, Mexico to my mom making us help her water her garden in Dallas, and to my father, the ever-romantic constantly buying my mom flowers for holidays, birthday’s or just because. My curiosity with flowers started a little pre-pandemic I began arranging for close friends and family just as a hobby and it slowly outgrew from a hobby to a passion. Here we are a little over two years later and we are still blooming. I am excited to dive more and more into more events and weddings!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh no, not at all! This road is a bumpy but pretty road! I have taken a few classes however; I pride myself on being primarily self-taught. With that I have learned so much along the way from securing centerpieces in travel, fighting windy days, being flexible, how to work with not the kindest of people, to find beauty in the imperfections. A few panic attacks later trust me, I have definitely learned to make multiple lists, timelines, new breathing techniques and to pack my floral kit for every possible outcome.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a now “toddler” florist, with that I like to think of myself as a blooming whimsical design specialist. My airy, romantic, and girly designs are what set me a part of the group however, I also think of myself as a floral chameleon I am able to adapt to different floral styles. I love taking a client’s inspiration photo and making it my own!

What matters most to you? Why?
Quality! I will always make sure that my prices are fair, affordable and that the floral item is of good quality and beautiful. I do not know my client’s financial situations. If they decided to spend their last $60 on an item from my business, I want to make that the item exceeds their expectations and brings a smile to their face.
