Hi Markita, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Kinks & Akrylics is hopefully everyone’s comfort zone, I take pleasure in providing comfort, and providing my clientele with satisfying experiences and results. I service everyone from wedding parties, kids birthday nail bar, and people throughout DFW. I ABSOLUTELY love the beauty industry, and I’ve always LOVED art.. in any form. it’s a passion stemming from childhood. Growing up my aunt who’s a cosmetologist always had us at the salon helping out on off days, that quickly grew into a passion of mine, seeing everyone feel beautiful and happy after their service was complete. So I started doing hair and drawing, writing poetry and people started to notice and request drawings and services.. anyone was welcome. That opened up so many avenues for me to choose and I chose them all. Lashes, Braids, Nails!, and I’ve combined my passion for art within my nail services. I take huge pride in providing my clientele with satisfaction in all the genres that I have chosen in the beauty industry. I love to see them happy, & feeling beautiful, it truly brings peace to my heart. Not to mention the connections, friendships and love that comes with it, it’s amazing and i wouldn’t change it for anything.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge in the beginning was learning how to maneuver through the business industry and maintaining all of my services, being persistent with each client, trying to maintain booking and keep a steady head. Also learning how to spend learning how to profit and how to properly price each service to accomplish that. It definitely Takes a lot of trial and error and a lot of Self education.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m definitely known as Ki the braider and Ki the Nail Tech. I started out braiding in 2009 up until now and i’m known for my neatness and persistence.,The longevity of the style and my braiding style is different than most. When it comes to Nails, I am known for also my persistence my shaping my form and most definitely my art skills, I specialize in nail care. My clients don’t leave here without a manicure and some clean, cut, freshly groomed cuticles & healthy nails. I’m most proud of my newest extension to the family, which is the eyelash extension specialist for which I’ll be graduating from school soon and I am already serving happy, satisfied clients in that field as well. What sets me apart from everyone else is my originality, my style and being able to be open and honest to my clients and making my biggest attempts to keep them happy and satisfied if every single appointment.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel the qualities and characteristics to be successful are definitely to have the drive and willpower, integrity, self-reliance. Definitely you have to be patient. Also, you should be able to communicate efficiently with different varieties of people so definitely having some type of communication skills will be important, discipline and most importantly confidence in yourself and your ability to push through.
