Rising Stars: Meet Marlene Woods of Dallas, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Woods

Hi Marlene, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started a mommy blog when my twins were small. The blog has become a digital scrapbook for all the adventures we have had in the past eight years since we left Texas. Although we lived in Austria and Malaysia, we visited many more countries and met wonderful people.
It is important to me to raise children who are global citizens. My children have been exposed to different cultures and languages, but since I am a Spanish speaker, it is crucial they live in a bilingual and bicultural environment.
My blog is about how to raise children in two cultures and two languages.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The wonderful and arduos task of being a full-time mother has been a time invested in observing, planning, and preparing for future endeavours.
Living abroad has been a deterrent in starting a business.
I am here now, wish me luck.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
To promote early bilingual education, I have published a book in English and Spanish called, Animales de la A a la Z – Animals from A – Z. It is poetry about animals and it is super fun. There are two more books in the works about being a first-time mom and the baby years. Books are available on Amazon.
I am currently in the early stages of developing a line of bilingual T-shirts. I also make sustainable handbags made out of coffee sacks with unique handmade embroidery. The scrunchies are crocheted on an elastic hair band to maintain an updoe and keep hair soft.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There is space for everyone to occupy and I have decided to claim mine and give it my all.
