Rising Stars: Meet Marlenn Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlenn Martinez.

Hi Marlenn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off working for Drybar before the pandemic and decided to venture off and learn more about cuts and color. I was introduced to Lorena Moreno, she was looking for an associate at the time and she reached out to interview me. I got hired right when everything shut down! It was a very crazy and challenging time for everyone.

As soon as the salons started opening back up I shadowed Lorena for a few months until I was ready to be promoted to level 1 stylist. I was very ecstatic to begin taking my own clients! I was able to attend a business seminar alongside Lorena and learned many tips and tricks to building a clientele. Her associate program also includes classes so we are constantly learning even after you get promoted to stylist. I believe I am where I am today because I have goals that set me up for success. I always have something new to motivate me to do better!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a crazy ride but I love a challenge! Building is still kind of challenging especially since it’s my first year behind the chair. It’s definitely taken a lot of work since the whole world revolves around social media nowadays, it’s crucial to be up to date with all the latest trends and targeting your ideal clientele!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work at Salon Grace, we celebrate diversity so we don’t necessarily specialize in just one thing. We engage with excellence in everything we do. I believe what sets us apart from other salons is our ability to make everyone feel comfortable, we aim to deliver a luxury experience that drives the highest level of satisfaction. What makes me proud is helping people feel more confident in themselves and also being able to come this far in such a short amount of time, who knows what 2022 has in store!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would probably be going out to eat with my parents as a family every Sunday and getting to see them both on the same day, they are both workaholics and I believe that because of them I am very ambitious and hardworking. I would love to one day give back to them!
