Rising Stars: Meet Marlyn Ingram of Dallas-Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlyn Ingram.

Hi Marlyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in California and lived there with my parents and two sisters until I was 12yrs old. Then my parents decided it was time for a new beginning, so we packed up and moved to McAllen, TX in 2001. Unfortunately my sister’s stayed behind and I became an only child, I dove into drawing anime and fashion just to keep myself distracted.
As years went by and I got out High School in 2007 I started to dabble on Special Effects Makeup. Alot of people were impressed by my abilities that I started to get customers during Halloween.
I kept my artistic spirit alive during pregnancy by painting my belly, and though my art took a backseat after my marriage and the birth of my beautiful daughter in 2018, I cherish those moments.
My husband went into the oil field and I became a stay at home mom.
We ended up moving to El Paso, TX so we can be closer to my sister but at the end of 2019 my husband got a job offer and we moved to Laredo, TX in 2020. Covid hit and we were restricted to our homes it was difficult to make friends so I kept to my self and started to make TikToks. Inspiration started to hit again so I got a canvas from the thrift store and very old paint and started my first big painting, Frankenstein. I fell in love with the idea of repurposing.
I began sharing videos of my repurposed art and soon realized I wished to express more of my creativity through my personal style. This led me to learn how to restyle items from my thrifted wardrobe, eventually bringing these two aspects of my life together.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely not a smooth road. After I had my daughter I had health issues that affected my mental health.
So art was not a priority and that meant I was not a priority.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a detail artist that specializes in pop culture acrylic paintings that loves to thrift, repurpose and restyle thrifted outfits.
I truly appreciate the chance to demonstrate to women the extensive possibilities within their wardrobes, as fashion is an art form and we are all artists in our own unique ways.
I am particularly proud of the improvement in my detailed artwork, evolving from using a mirror to paint myself to now having a proper canvas before me.
What sets me apart from others is that I see myself as a canvas a way to improve and evolve into something that will make my soul smile.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
