Today we’d like to introduce you to Melba Mosley.
Hi Melba, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got started on this journey 12 years ago. I was in cosmetology school and a lady came in and we were not able to work on her due to lack of training and liability to the school. She was a diabetic and I decided then that will be my targeted market. I consulted with my teacher and was told I wouldn’t make it in the nail industry without doing acrylic or nail designs. Intrigued with the look of natural nails, I became in advanced nail technician also a medical nail technician with the guidance of Janet McCormick. I went on to get my clinical podiatric medical assistant certification as well. The route that I’ve taken has been heartwarming and very rewarding being able to safely help people with medical specialties, or just a safer alternative the traditional pedicures. Through the years, I’ve built relationships with podiatrist to further educate myself in this niche of being a medical nail technician. Dr. Charlton Woodly of Woodly Foot and Ankle has been a huge influence in my career; he has a new school opening up for Podiatric Medical Nail Hygienist that he’s allowed me to be a part of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s been more like a country road, not able to see what’s ahead but trusting it’ll be a beautiful destination. When you mention waterless pedicures, you definitely get a brow raise, and questions to follow. So it’s a constant hands on marketing tool, and education to help understand why it’s a safer alternative. People with compromise immune systems or diabetics that have neuropathy should be very cautious when going to traditional Nail Salons. Something as simple as the water temperature or a simple neck could cause grave danger..
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize and waterless pedicures, this creates a safe for alternative to traditional pedicures. I’m extremely proud of the confidence it brings to my clients and the comfort it gives the caregivers that hire me what sesame apart from others is that is not just a job, I love what I do my clients have become more like family members to me.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
It’s funny, but I’m quiet and don’t like to talk much. My clients will tell him much different story, I get passionate about my work so when I educate them about their feet, I can get a little long-winded.
