Rising Stars: Meet Mohammad “Talal” Shaikh of Dallas, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mohammad “Talal” Shaikh.

Hi Mohammad “Talal”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story didn’t start with repairing devices — it started with business. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by how companies operate, how brands grow, and how people turn ideas into something real. I’ve always wanted to build something of my own, something I could scale, optimize, and take full ownership of.

That mindset is what eventually led me to The Tech Guys.

I didn’t come from a technical repair background. What I did have was a strong foundation in marketing, data, and operations — and an obsession with building systems that actually work. When the opportunity came to buy The Tech Guys, the business wasn’t in great shape. Most people probably would’ve walked away. But I saw potential. I saw a brand that just needed structure, direction, and someone willing to rebuild it brick by brick.

So I took the risk — a big one. I invested my savings, my time, and my energy into transforming the business, all while completing my Master’s and building my marketing agency, Digital Dominance. I treated The Tech Guys like a startup: audit everything, fix what’s broken, build systems, develop the team, strengthen the brand, and track every metric that mattered.

It wasn’t easy. We dealt with setbacks, theft, challenges, and moments where it felt like everything could fall apart. But with my business partner Ajmal, our manager Seth, and a team that truly cares, we pushed through. We created processes that allowed the shop to run smoothly, expanded into more services, became profitable, and started growing in a way that felt sustainable and strategic — not accidental.

Today, The Tech Guys is the result of resilience, calculated decision-making, and a deep love for building something bigger than myself. I didn’t get here because I was the best technician — I got here because I’ve always been obsessed with business, improvement, and turning potential into something real. And this is just the beginning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all. Nothing about this journey has been smooth, and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be.

When I took over The Tech Guys, the business was in a tough spot. We were dealing with existing debt, inconsistent revenue, and a brand that needed a full rebuild. I wasn’t coming from a hardware background, so I had to learn the industry from the inside out while simultaneously restructuring the entire operation. That alone was a challenge; stepping into a business where you’re expected to fix problems you’re still learning to diagnose.

Then came the setbacks. We got robbed. We had periods where cash flow was tight. There were moments where weeks of progress were wiped out overnight and we had to start from scratch. I was also juggling my Master’s program and growing my marketing agency at the same time, which meant long nights, early mornings, and zero room for excuses.

One of the biggest challenges was mindset. When you own a business, you can’t call in sick. You can’t hide. Every problem becomes your problem. And when you’re trying to build structure in a business that previously had none, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But those moments forced me to grow fast. They pushed me to become more resilient, disciplined, and decisive.

Another major struggle was building the right team. You quickly realize that you cannot scale anything alone. Training, hiring, delegating, and developing trust in others is its own battle. I’m grateful now to have people like Ajmal and Seth who not only support the vision but also embody the work ethic and care that keeps The Tech Guys running at a high level.

The road has been messy, stressful, and unpredictable, but that’s exactly what makes the wins meaningful. The struggles built the foundation. They gave me thicker skin, sharper instincts, and a deeper appreciation for every step forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally, I work in the corporate world in a data-driven and strategy-focused role, helping teams make clearer decisions, understand performance, and build systems that remove guesswork. My work involves simplifying complex problems, creating structure where it’s missing, and using data to guide meaningful actions. I enjoy finding patterns, diagnosing issues, and turning insights into processes that make things run smoother and more efficiently.

What truly defines my career is my mentality. I have always lived by the idea of showing up every single day, no matter what. I don’t need to know everything from the start. I just need the willingness to learn, experiment, and improve. I take pride in the mindset of “I don’t know how to do it yet,” because I believe that with discipline and curiosity, I can eventually figure out anything put in front of me.

I am proud that I have been able to grow within my corporate career while also building and scaling a business at the same time. Balancing both has forced me to develop stronger discipline, better time management, and a more strategic way of thinking. I strive to excel in every opportunity I’m given, not out of ego, but because I want to honor the trust that others place in me and make the most of every role I take on.

What sets me apart is my resilience and consistency. I don’t quit when things get difficult, and I don’t get discouraged when I don’t have all the answers. I analyze, adapt, and keep moving. I approach every challenge with a combination of data-driven logic, patience, and a willingness to learn quickly. That mindset has shaped both my corporate work and my entrepreneurial journey.

At the end of the day, my philosophy is simple: work hard, stay curious, rely on data, and improve a little every day. That mindset has opened more opportunities for me than anything else.
