Today we’d like to introduce you to Myke Woods
Hi Myke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2010 when I was asked to participate in a half marathon as a bet. My weight loss journey introduced me to season 1 of my running journey. Since then I have had some ups and downs. I’ve lost some loved ones and it made me dedicate my life to my faith in God and working toward a healthy lifestyle. In the midst of this I have gained some community and created a community space of my own called Run2TheWord.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has had its obstacles. That 440 lbs was obstacle number 1. Obstacle 2 was the inconsistencies of life’s always changing variables. So I would pick up, fall off and pick up again.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I’m most proud of my running club ministry called Run2TheWord. I got it started in 2023. It is a fusion of church and running and we are indeed outside! We meet at different park trails in the city. I specialize In community, making Biblical principles 2024 relatable and getting the body to move in response to the Word. Also, we give back to the communities of Dallas and Fort Worth. I hosted our first back2school supply drive at Trinity Groves. The runners brought their donations, ASICS came out and provided test shoes. The supply donation was overwhelming. Barely had enough space to transport the items and we had 4 cars driving.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m a risk taker. One of my biggest moments is actually set to take place in October as I’ll be procuring my first World Major Marathon Star by running the Chicago marathon. To go from a weight loss surgery, walking, to a 5K thru a full marathon in 18 months time… Every day is a risk with a challenge in consistency. I choose this every single day!
