I didn’t know where this would lead, but I knew one thing: Mystique Summers was not just a name; she was going to be a phenomenon.
Enter RuPaul’s Drag Race. Darling, I came in with a purpose: to be unforgettable. “B*tch, I’m from Chicago!” (OK, technically I was created in Texas, but Chicago energy is what I bring, alright?) Drag Race wasn’t just a competition; it was my stage to be my loudest, fiercest self. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
let me tell you – this road has been anything but smooth! My journey as Mystique Summers has been full of twists, turns, and a whole lot of strength I didn’t even know I had.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was my weight. At my heaviest, I weighed 400 pounds, and it wasn’t just the physical weight that held me back – it was the mental and emotional toll, too. Growing up, I struggled with depression and self-worth. Drag helped me unleash my fierce side, but behind the makeup and the glitz, there were still battles I had to fight. Mental health is no joke, and I’ve faced some real lows on this journey. But with each setback, I chose to get back up. I had to learn that self-love and self-care weren’t just catchphrases; they were survival tools.
With time, determination, and support, I was able to make some big changes. Today, I’m proud to say I went from 400 pounds to 205 pounds. It’s been a long road, full of discipline, healing, and a few drag queen pep talks in the mirror. I’ve learned that my strength doesn’t just come from how I look or the outfits I wear – it comes from within.
Through this journey, I’ve become passionate about speaking up about mental health and showing people that even when life feels heavy, you can rise above it.
