Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Chandler.
Hi Nina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I actually started my career in a completely different world. I was a teacher before cosmetology. When COVID hit, I lost my job and ended up working front desk at a salon in Coppell, TX just to get through that season of life. But being in that environment changed everything for me. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the creativity, the community, and the way people walked out feeling more confident than when they came in.
One of my best friends, who had been doing hair for nearly a decade, saw something in me that I didn’t fully see in myself yet. She kept encouraging me to go for it, and eventually, as a 32-year-old single mom, I decided to take the leap and enroll in cosmetology school. It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made, but also one of the best. I’m forever grateful to her for giving me that push.
School was honestly the toughest part, it takes so much time, sacrifice, and dedication, especially while raising a child. But sticking with it helped me build confidence in color theory, refine my craft, and most importantly, it helped me keep most of my clients from school, which gave me a really solid start after graduating.
Today, I’m working at Hair Revival Studio in the Dallas Design District, specializing in low-maintenance blondes, brunettes, and redheads. My philosophy behind the chair is simple: I want my clients to feel comfortable, understood, and taken care of. I love creating looks that blend naturally with what they already have, enhance their features, and still keep their hair healthy and growing.
There was a moment early in my career when a client told me not just how much she loved her hair, but how much she enjoyed spending time with me. That’s when it clicked that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be. This career lets me be creative, meet amazing people, support my daughter, and still be present for all the important moments in her life. I truly love what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not, but I think that’s what makes my journey meaningful. Starting a completely new career in my 30s, as a single mom, during a time when the world felt really uncertain, came with a lot of challenges. Cosmetology school itself was a huge commitment. It took long days, late nights, balancing mom life, financial stress, and honestly a lot of self-belief that I had to build as I went.
There were moments where it felt overwhelming, but every challenge ended up shaping me into a stronger stylist. Learning color theory, practicing techniques for hours, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone gave me the confidence I needed to step into this industry.
It definitely hasn’t been an easy or smooth road, but it’s been worth it. The support of my clients, the people who believed in me, and the feeling of watching someone leave my chair more confident than when they walked in… that’s what kept me going. Every step, even the hard ones, led me exactly where I’m meant to be.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Hair Revival Studio, I specialize in low-maintenance blondes, dimensional brunettes, and occasionally I do love my a redhead. Basically the kinds of looks that grow out beautifully and make people feel put-together without needing constant upkeep. I love enhancing what my clients naturally have and creating blends that feel effortless, soft, and lived-in.
I’m known for being really intentional with both technique and client experience. My focus is always on healthy hair, realistic expectations, and creating a look that fits someone’s lifestyle, not just the inspo photo. I want my clients to feel comfortable, heard, and confident when they’re in my chair. For me, it’s never just about the hair, it’s about giving someone a moment to relax, feel pampered, and feel like themselves again.
What I’m most proud of is how quickly I connected with my clients and built trust. Hearing people say they love not just their color but also the vibe, the environment, and how they feel during their appointment means everything to me. That’s the part of my job that lights me up.
What sets me apart is my ability to create low-maintenance color that still feels elevated and polished. I’m very detail-oriented, but in a soft, approachable way. My clients know I’m going to take my time, customize their look, focus on keeping their hair healthy, and give them a blend that truly lasts. I think people come to me for both the results and the energy: a chill, comfortable space where they can relax while knowing their hair is in good hands.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite memories growing up was teaching myself how to do makeup and hairstyles from YouTube and then being the go-to friend for getting everyone ready. I was always the one doing my friends’ hair for homecoming, prom, and nights out. I didn’t realize it back then, but those moments were really the beginning of my love for beauty. I loved the process, the transformation, and how excited everyone felt when they saw themselves. It’s funny looking back now, because it all makes sense, I’ve always been drawn to helping people feel confident and beautiful.
