Rising Stars: Meet Peter Sanjur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Sanjur.

Peter Sanjur

Peter, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I picked up my first camera around 6 years ago. Of course, when I started, it was always more of a social thing; I wanted to hang out with my friends and get better at taking photos, so that’s what I did. I didn’t realize it would lead to me being absolutely obsessed with the craft. Now that I’ve been doing this for 6 years, I can definitely call myself a professional, but to be honest, I just think it’s really fun to make my different ideas come to life and for people to appreciate that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has never really been much of a struggle getting to where I wanted financially, but creatively I have hit more than a couple of roadblocks on my journey. When I was starting out, I was lucky enough to get into the wedding industry at 17. I did that for quite a while and made my money that way, but when it came to furthering myself as a creative, I always found it hard to push past what I could do before. I would constantly try and improve by learning different lighting techniques or something new in Photoshop. Experimenting definitely helps get me out of those creative obstacles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My specialty is in Art Direction and Photography. Usually, when I have a concept, I like to fully think it through. This resulted in one of my latest works being featured in the “Team Player” Art Gallery in Fort Worth, Texas about 2 months ago. It was by far one of the highlights of my year. What sets me apart is my editing style. I don’t really see a lot of people put in the work that I do in the post-production aspect, and that’s one of my favorite parts of the process. Everything from the Graphic design aspect of my photos, the balance of colors I play with, and the different masking and typography work I do sets me apart.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like about Dallas is that there are so many other creatives close by. And a fair amount of different locations that I can go to.

The thing I like least about Dallas is the size of the industry here compared to New York or LA. It’s definitely growing, but it has a long way to go before I could call it a creative hub.
