Rising Stars: Meet PG Brown of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to PG Brown.

Hi PG, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely — my story starts in New Orleans.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up singing in middle school and high school choirs, doing competitions, and realizing early that performing was where I felt the most myself. After graduating high school, I took that passion into college, majoring in Musical Theatre at KD Conservatory. Even though I didn’t finish the program, that training helped shape my stage presence, vocal control, and confidence as an artist.

When I moved to Dallas–Fort Worth, that’s when everything really shifted. I decided to turn my talent into a career. I started recording wherever I could, performing at any venue that would give me a mic, and developing a sound that blends modern R&B, neo-soul, and pop.

Over time, I released singles like “Fantasy,” “All I Need,” “Leo Queen,” “Guilty,” “Go Right Now,” “Zones,” and more — eventually reaching over 4 million streams across platforms. One of the biggest early milestones was Shaquille O’Neal publicly praising “Zones” during a major music tournament, which let me know my sound was resonating far beyond my city.

As I built my brand, I expanded into DJing, songwriting, producing, performing, and creating platforms like PG Approved — giving artists a place to showcase their work while strengthening my own presence. I’ve also got new music on the way, including records like Run a Red and Space, which represent my next level creatively.

Outside the music, family is the center of everything I do. I’m a husband, a father of four, and a youth football coach. Those roles keep me grounded, focused, and hungry to keep building.

Today I’m performing weekly across DFW, creating content, growing my brand, and pushing PG Brown Music forward every day. My story is really about evolution — from school choirs and competitions, to musical theatre training, to a fully-independent artist building something real from the ground up.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all — but every part of the journey has shaped me.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing my career with my family. I’m a father of four young kids — a five-year-old, another five-year-old, a three-year-old, and a two-year-old — all adopted, all under five. That alone is a blessing, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility, structure, and patience. Trying to chase a music career while making sure four little ones are loved, safe, and taken care of is a real daily balance.

On top of that, being an independent artist means you’re wearing every hat. I’m the singer, songwriter, DJ, marketer, manager, editor, promoter, and business owner. Everything takes time, money, and energy. Studio costs, visuals, equipment, rehearsals — it adds up fast, especially when you’re providing for a family.

There were times when I had to pause, regroup, or stretch myself to make things happen. Times when I questioned if the work would pay off, or if I could juggle it all without burning out. And emotionally, it can be tough — staying motivated when you’re tired, trying not to compare your journey, pushing through doubt, and showing up anyway.

But at the same time, these struggles made me stronger. They forced me to grow, to be more disciplined, more intentional, and more grounded. My kids motivate me every single day. They’re part of why I work so hard and why I don’t give up.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth — but it’s been real. And it’s made me into the artist and the man I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an R&B vocalist, songwriter, DJ, performer, and creator based in Dallas–Fort Worth. I specialize in blending modern R&B with soul, pop, and a little bit of that New Orleans flavor I grew up with. Over the years, I’ve built a brand around not just performing music, but creating full experiences — from my live shows to platforms like PG Approved, where I highlight and support other artists.

People know me for my voice, my energy on stage, and the way I connect with an audience. Whether I’m DJing, singing, or hosting a show, I bring a mix of confidence, soul, and real-life storytelling that reflects who I am.

But honestly, the thing I’m most proud of is my growth. I didn’t quit. Even with everything I’ve gone through — from starting young in choirs and musical theatre, to taking care of four kids under five, to building my career as a fully independent artist — I stayed consistent. I kept creating, kept performing, kept learning, and kept pushing myself to level up. That’s something a lot of people don’t see behind the scenes, but it’s what defines my journey.

What sets me apart is my authenticity and my resilience. I’m balancing music, family, entrepreneurship, DJing, coaching, and content creation — and I’m still showing up with passion every single day. I don’t pretend to be perfect; I just work hard, stay grateful, and let my growth speak for itself.

At the end of the day, my story is about perseverance. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and even more excited about where I’m headed.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely. As an independent artist, I rely on a mix of creative tools, motivational resources, and things that help me stay organized while juggling music, DJ work, content, and being a dad of four.

For music and content:

CapCut – I use this a lot for editing performance clips, PG Approved videos, and promo content.

BandLab / Voice Memos – great for capturing ideas on the go.

Spotify for Artists & Apple Music for Artists – helps me track my growth and plan releases strategically.

Canva – perfect for quick graphics, flyers, and visual content.

For staying organized and balanced:

Google Calendar – scheduling is everything when you’re balancing shows, DJ gigs, coaching, and four little ones.

Notion or Google Keep – helps me plan content, shows, and ideas without losing track.

For mindset and motivation:

Podcasts like “Earn Your Leisure,” “The Mindset Mentor,” or “The GaryVee Audio Experience” – they help me stay focused on long-term goals, entrepreneurship, and consistency.

YouTube channels like Think Media or Adam Ivy – great for marketing tips, music promotion ideas, and learning how to grow independently.

For life in general:

Honestly, parenting resources and time-management content help just as much as music tools. With four kids under five, I’m always learning how to balance family, work, and creativity.

I’m big on anything that helps me stay consistent. I don’t need a million tools — just the right ones that help me stay organized, stay inspired, and keep growing without losing myself in the process.
