Today we’d like to introduce you to Portia Hambrick.
Portia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Without getting into too much detail, I had a boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) tell me I need to find a hobby because I was too clingy. I always loved taking pictures so I figured I should give modeling a try after my first shoot I fell in love and the rest was history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been somewhat challenging at times. I’m petite so that alone is a challenge. A lot of photographers or agencies want models who are 5ft 8, not someone who is 5ft even. I had to learn angles and poses that would make me look taller. Now, photographers are usually shocked because they think I’m tall and I’m not at all. Lol.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a fashion and boudoir model. I mostly do print work, no runway (but I’m not opposed). I’m comfortable with fitness, portrait swimwear, boudoir, glamour, and lifestyle type of shoots but I’m open to (almost) anything.
I am most proud of recently Ciara, the celebrity who shared one of my photos and told me she loved it. I like to think my work ethic and dedication set me apart. Anyone that works with me so I’m going to “bring it” every time I take my work very seriously, but I love to have fun!
What makes you happy?
Seeing my work after a shoo and just getting in front of the camera. I feel like I can be a little vain and not get judged, and it builds my confidence and self-esteem. I feel like I have an alter-ego almost when I’m at a photoshoot.
