Rising Stars: Meet Reagan Smith of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reagan Smith

Hi Reagan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Jackson, MS, with a chapter of life spent in Indianapolis, IN, I have always been driven by a passion for connection and communication. I attended Mississippi State University, where I earned my degree in communications with a focus on public relations and broadcasting. Currently, I’m pursuing my MBA in Human Resource Management at Arkansas State University, broadening my expertise in people management. My professional journey began with roles in customer service, client services, and administrative positions, where I developed a strong foundation in fostering relationships and supporting clients. Today, I am proud to serve as a Talent Recruitment Manager for Imprimis Group, a leading staffing and recruiting agency in DFW, where I continue to pursue my passion for helping individuals find their career paths.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My career path has been far from easy, shaped by the challenges of living through a pandemic, enduring major life changes, and experiencing the loss of loved ones. Along the way, I faced several layoffs due to company reorganizations, each one bringing uncertainty but also fueling resilience. My first layoff during the Covid-19 pandemic was a turning point—it sparked a new passion within me. I found solace in doing what I loved: writing and content creation. This led to the birth of my blog, aimed at helping young women in their 20s navigate the complexities of life, offering insights, encouragement, and a space for connection. These experiences, while difficult, have ultimately guided me to where I am today, shaping both my career and personal journey.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently a Talent Recruitment Manager for Imprimis Group, a woman-owned minority staffing and recruiting agency in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We specialize in a wide range of industries, from administrative and human resources to legal, finance/accounting, and even C-level executive placements. Our CEO, Julie Stephens, is a powerhouse in the staffing industry, and I am proud to contribute to such a dynamic team. One of the things I value most in my role is the connections I build with both candidates and clients. By infusing my personality and professionalism into every interaction, I create a rapport that fosters trust and long-term relationships.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If I had to give advice to someone just starting out as a recruiter, I would emphasize the importance of having patience and keeping your faith. This industry can be incredibly challenging, frustrating, and at times, defeating, but you have to remain headstrong and consistent. Another key piece of advice would be to soak up all the knowledge and information you can—never stop learning. Finding a mentor is also invaluable. Seek out someone who genuinely has your best interests at heart and is invested in your personal and professional growth.

Something I wish I knew when I first started out is that things don’t happen overnight, and persistence is essential. In the people business, you have to embrace the unpredictability because, as my colleague Jamie Shimek always says, “we cannot control people.” Learning this has been key to my growth as a recruiter. Another important lesson I’ve learned is to take your emotions out of it and not take things personally. In recruiting, people will make decisions that may seem unexpected or frustrating, but it’s crucial to remember that their choices are often influenced by factors beyond your control. Staying objective and focusing on the bigger picture helps you remain resilient and effective in this industry.
