Rising Stars: Meet Sam and Brandon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam and Brandon.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam and Brandon.  Hi Sam and Brandon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our friendship started off with shared beer and conversation about where we both come from, our businesses, and our upbringing.  Sam, whose parents are from Coahuila, Mexico, and Managua, Nicaragua, came to the U.S. in search of a better life. Raised Sam and his siblings to the best of their ability despite the struggles they had to face along the way and has made Sam the man he is today. Over the years of hard work and dedication to his craft, Sam has created a name for himself in San Antonio as one of the top barbers in the city.  Brandon made it to the U.S. upon his parents’ meeting in Guam. His dad, who was active-duty navy, had orders to be in Washington St. and after a couple of years, his family moved again to San Antonio, TX, where Brandon enlisted in the navy and now calls San Antonio his home. Once Brandon left the service, he started taking up photography and now has his own business and a published photographer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like every business owner, our beginnings were not what we expected. There were ups and downs with many uncertainties of not knowing how we would navigate through the tough world of entrepreneurship. Though we had to face many obstacles, some of the things we went through that we had in common were things such as building clientele, learning the ins and outs of our trades, and believing in ourselves in times of doubt.  Throughout our journeys, we had many people that crossed our paths. Some of whom we consider mentors and leaders in our lives and, as well as other people we have encountered along the way, have been left behind as we advance in not only our life but our careers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As we came back from the pandemic, and we were still trying to keep our businesses afloat, Sam and I were in talks of starting a podcast. It seemed like everyone was starting one at that time, but a lot of those podcasts were part of the genre of keeping everyone laughing and humorous, but there wasn’t one that had that and also told stories of people’s challenges and victories in their lives. So, we went on the journey of figuring out how we want to portray the stories of people’s lives and how they became who they are.  We take a lot of our inspirations from our church community and how they share their testimony of how god has moved in them during times of struggle and when they are at their lowest. When people share those stories of how they have overcome such struggles, it allows others to know that they aren’t alone in this world.  We would have to say that we are proud of how we have been able to meet so many people that are happy to share their stories and be so transparent and willing to share their experience in life. Each person that we bring will not only help us to get to know them but to also be able to share their story in hopes that it will reach the ears of someone that can relate.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, we want to thank god for giving us the voice and our calling to make the impact we have been making. We want to thank our families, friends, and our supporters for listening week in and week out. We appreciate you all so much. Without you, this podcast wouldn’t be where it is at.
