Rising Stars: Meet Sana Haq of Farmers Branch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sana Haq.

Hi Sana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Growing up, I was a pretty creative person. My primary outlet in high school was web design and writing. I also took art classes in senior year when I fulfilled my prerequisites for graduation. I also had a kid sister whom we would bake and decorate sugar cookies together from time to time. It wasn’t anything fancy, we made homemade dough and used store-bought cookie icing to decorate.

When I started medical school, all that got pushed to the side and I lost touch with my creative self because I felt I did not have the time. I continued to complete my residency training and have kids, and further convinced myself it wasn’t the time for me.

I am part of a physician mom group on Facebook and they were sharing their artwork. There we’re painters, sculptors, resin artists, woodworkers, and more. was in awe at how creative these women were and admired how they made time to care for themselves through their art. I noted a lot of them were bakers and cookie artists.

On my day off I decided to try making sugar cookies again. They definitely were not pretty, but they were mine and I was so proud of them! I continued to make cookies here and there for fun when I had the chance. With practice, things got easier and I got better. When multiple friends, family, and coworkers told me my cookies were pretty enough to sell, I decided to open my Instagram page in February 2021. We moved to the DFW area over this summer and that’s when I decided to open up my mini shop and the rest is history!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say things have been smooth as far as me developing my skills. The main struggle is not having a large enough workspace as we live in an apartment right now.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently make custom sugar cookies. I found that I love doing small batches. Think gift boxes, hostess gifts, presents for people rather than larger-scale events. I think that’s what makes my business different. You can order by the cookie; there is no minimum order. With smaller sets, I can also dedicate more time to adding more elaborate details, which I love doing. I pour my heart and soul into my work and love each set that I do.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
A personal lesson I learned was taking care of myself and what I need, not only caring for those around me. It’s been a stressful time for many of us in many different ways. taking care of your needs are ways you can better deal with the hurdles that may come your way.
