Rising Stars: Meet Sara Williams of McKinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Williams.

Hi Sara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography for me started as a hobby after I had my first baby. I really wanted to have good photos to look back on as she got older to help me remember life in each stage and season with her. What was once a hobby quickly turned into a passion to learn more and take the best photos I could, not only for myself but for other families as well. My goal was to help families capture and freeze time in each fleeting season to help keep the memory alive, because we know that seasons and stages come and go so quickly, especially when you have young kids.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My photography journey has been one full of learning, but I would say it has been fairly smooth. The biggest obstacles were just learning curves on how to turn a fun hobby into an actual business, but thankfully I had people along the way that helped me whenever I had questions or doubts.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a lifestyle photographer in DFW. I don’t necessarily specialize in one specific area, but my favorite photoshoots are newborn, maternity, and family sessions. I LOVE the wild toddler stages, chasing kids around, and having FUN during my sessions. Family photos shouldn’t be stressful and I make it my goal to ensure parents and kids feel comfortable, relaxed, and having fun while they’re with me.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you look up to in your area of business! I reached out to other photographers before I started and they were so gracious to let me ask all the questions I had. I know it’s hard when everything feels so competitive these days, but it doesn’t have to be! There are people out there who want to help and who will encourage you and cheer for you along the way. Seek out the people that are where you want to be and put yourself out there.
