Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Rammage.
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a business owner for about 21 years now. I started young, hungry, and convinced that working harder than everyone else was the only way to win. For a long time, that approach worked; at least on paper but it came at a cost. I was burned out, constantly reacting, and missing the peace and freedom I thought business ownership would bring.
At one point, I hit a wall and realized I couldn’t keep doing everything myself. So I went out and solved my own problem. I built a system for finding, training, and leading world-class virtual professionals who could take real ownership of the work. That experience completely changed how I operated. I went from constantly putting out fires to leading from vision and strategy.
After I saw how much it changed my life and business, I started HireVP to help other entrepreneurs do the same. What began as a personal solution has grown into a multimillion-dollar company that helps business owners delegate with confidence and build teams they can truly trust.
Along the way, I also co-founded Media Machine, a content production company that’s now run by a managing partner Andriy, and I’ve stepped into coaching and mentoring other entrepreneurs. My work today focuses on helping leaders scale without losing themselves, building companies that serve their lives, not consume them.
At the end of the day, my story is about learning to let go, lead better, and live the way of the bison: facing the storm instead of running from it, because that’s where growth really happens.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. My first business was a bike shop that I opened back in 2004 while I was still teaching full-time. It started as a 300 square foot space and grew to about 2,000 square feet in less than five months. Before I knew it, I had five full-time employees and was running the business while teaching all day. That’s where I really got my start as an entrepreneur. I was learning by doing, figuring things out as I went, and working nonstop.
But in the middle of all that growth, I realized I had lost sight of what mattered most. I thought I was doing it all for my family, to give them a better life, but what they really wanted was more of me. That realization hit hard. I decided to sell the business so I could get my life back. I had a buyer lined up, inventory ready, and everything looked solid. But in the 11th hour, the deal fell apart. I had to make the tough call to close the doors and walk away with more than $250,000 in debt.
That was a huge turning point for me. I went back to teaching for a while and worked on paying off that debt, but the entrepreneurial itch never went away. Eventually, I found success in a direct sales company, which worked for a few years until the compensation plan changed and it was no longer sustainable.
After that, I opened a gym, and it took off fast. It was successful and exciting, but it also reminded me how easy it is to get caught up in the grind. I sold the gym in 2015 when my family and I decided to move to Texas. From there, I spent some time in the corporate world, which gave me a different perspective on leadership and structure.
In 2019, I started Media Machine after learning how to leverage my own virtual professionals. That changed everything. I saw how much time and freedom I could gain when I learned to delegate and trust the right people. Soon other business owners started asking how I did it, and that’s when HireVP was born. People wanted that personal, high-trust approach to hiring and leadership, and it grew from there.
It’s been a long journey with a lot of hard lessons. I’ve had to learn how to delegate, how to lead, how to slow down, and how to stay present with my family while still building something meaningful. Every chapter taught me something about what real success looks like and how to build businesses that serve my life instead of consuming it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I do today is really about helping business owners get their time and freedom back. Through HireVP, we connect entrepreneurs with world-class virtual professionals, mostly from the Philippines, who become true extensions of their team. We’re not a résumé service or a quick staffing fix. We focus on long-term partnerships, culture alignment, and real delegation that actually moves the needle.
I specialize in helping business owners shift out of the day-to-day chaos and into leadership. Most people come to us because they’re overwhelmed. They’ve built something great, but they’re stuck doing tasks that drain their energy. What sets us apart is the personal approach. We don’t just fill a role. We help the business owner understand what to delegate, how to delegate, and how to lead with clarity and confidence once they do.
What I’m most proud of is the impact. We’ve created jobs that change lives for families in the Philippines while helping business owners finally breathe again. I’ve seen clients go from being completely buried to taking vacations with their kids, launching new divisions, or rediscovering the joy in their work. That’s the kind of transformation that drives me.
At the same time, I’m also building a community and message around what I call the way of the bison—facing challenges head-on instead of running from them. Whether it’s through coaching, speaking, or content, my goal is to help leaders build companies that serve their lives, not consume them.
That’s what I’m known for. Teaching people how to delegate with confidence, lead with heart, and live with purpose.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories were always outdoors. I loved getting out into the woods and just getting lost in the adventure. We’d spend hours exploring creeks, climbing small mountains, and sitting on hilltops dreaming about life. There was something about being outside that made me feel alive and free.
Those moments shaped a lot of who I am today. The curiosity, the freedom to explore, and the quiet space to think are still what I chase when I get out mountain biking, snowboarding, rucking, or spending time in the mountains. That connection to nature and the sense of adventure have always grounded me and reminded me what really matters.
