Rising Stars: Meet Shaelaundra McLeish of Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaelaundra McLeish.

Hi Shaelaundra , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Shaelaundra McLeish

I was born and raised in Maypen, Clarendon, Jamaica, and my roots are at the heart of everything I do. Island Ease Wellness came from that my culture, my environment, and the feeling of home. When people experience a session with me, I want it to feel like the island itself. A moment where you can breathe deeply, let go, and reset. Almost like you’re lying on the beach, soaking in the sun, and just… exhaling.

My work is about helping the body unwind while also addressing what’s happening beneath the surface. I focus on finding dysfunction in the body and supporting people so they can show up as their best selves. I truly believe every person is a high performer we just need the right support to unlock that.

My passion for movement and performance started early. As an athlete, I’ve always been focused on function and operating at my highest level. That led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Wellness, and eventually my Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University, where I focused on sports chiropractic.

But my journey into this field became personal after a serious car accident that changed my life. I spent years dealing with injury, working to relearn how to move, how to function, and how to feel like myself again. It took determination, patience, and a strong support system. What made the biggest difference was chiropractic care. My chiropractor didn’t just treat my symptoms they got to the root of the problem. That experience shifted everything for me.

It inspired me to step into this profession with purpose.

Today, through Island Ease Wellness, I bring together my clinical training, my personal journey, and my cultural roots to create an experience that goes beyond just treatment. My goal is to help people not only feel better, but function better, live better, and reconnect with themselves.

For me, it’s always about one thing helping people feel whole again.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was going through seasons where I didn’t have much family around me. During those times, my friends truly became my family my classmates, my teammates, the people who showed up for me day after day, especially throughout my recovery process.

In my final year of school, I experienced another life-altering moment. I was in a car accident where my head went through the window, which later resulted in a traumatic brain injury. That period was extremely difficult. I dealt with memory loss, especially short-term memory, light sensitivity, and a noticeable decline in my comprehension. Simple things that once felt natural suddenly required intense focus and effort. It was devastating, especially being so close to the finish line in my academic journey.

But through my faith, I found the strength to keep going. I committed to my recovery with everything I had. I spent time at NeuroLife in Atlanta, working with a functional neurology chiropractor, and received consistent care and support through chiropractic adjustments at Be One Collective in Marietta, Georgia. Those experiences played a major role in helping me restore not just my physical health, but my confidence and clarity as well.

What carried me through, just as much as the care, was the support system around me. My friends and loved ones showed up for me in ways I’ll never forget. That season taught me resilience on a deeper level it reshaped how I see healing, patience, and what it truly means to support someone through recovery.

Today, I don’t take any part of the journey for granted. It strengthened my purpose and deepened my commitment to helping others navigate their own path back to feeling whole again.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I do is centered around helping people reconnect with their bodies so they can function and perform at their highest level. I provide care that focuses on restoring alignment, improving movement, and reducing tension patterns that limit performance and overall well being.

I specialize in working with high performers whether that’s athletes, professionals, or individuals who simply want to show up better in their everyday lives. My approach blends sports chiropractic, functional movement, and nervous system-focused care. I don’t just look at symptoms; I look at how the entire body is functioning as a system. The goal is to identify the root cause of dysfunction and create real, lasting change.

What I’ve become known for is the experience I create. When people come to me, it’s not just about getting adjusted it’s about entering a space where they can truly let go. My care has a flow to it, almost like a reset for the body and mind. Clients often say it feels like they can finally breathe again, like their body is unwinding in a way it hasn’t in a long time.

What I’m most proud of is being able to take my own challenges especially my recovery from injury and a traumatic brain injury and turn that into something that helps others. I understand what it feels like to not be at your best, and that perspective allows me to meet people with both precision and empathy.

What sets me apart is the combination of my background, my story, and my approach. I bring together clinical training, athletic performance, and my cultural roots to create something that’s both results driven and deeply intentional. It’s not just about fixing a problem it’s about elevating how people move, feel, and live.

At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to help people feel aligned, function better, and step into the highest version of themselves.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me in a few different ways, whether it’s through direct care, collaboration, or community impact. I am also open to emails or dms on Instagram.

Through Island Ease Wellness, I offer care and movement based sessions for individuals who want to improve how they feel, move, and perform. That’s the most direct way to experience my work.

Beyond that, collaboration is a big part of what I do. I’m always open to partnering with organizations, wellness brands, and community leaders who share a vision of helping people live healthier, more aligned lives. Whether it’s hosting workshops, corporate wellness events, or building out wellness experiences, I enjoy creating spaces where people can reset and reconnect.

Community work is also very important to me. Giving back is at the core of my mission. I support initiatives like back to school drives and relief efforts for communities impacted by hurricanes. Right now, I’m working on developing a retreat in Treasure Beach, Jamaica, focused on helping individuals with movement dysfunction while also creating a giving component providing supplies and support to areas in need.

For those who want to support, there are many ways to be involved. You can collaborate, donate resources, help spread awareness, or even participate in these retreats and initiatives. Every level of support helps us expand the impact and reach more people.

At the heart of it, my goal is to build something that not only transforms individuals, but also uplifts communities.
