Today we’d like to introduce you to Shamaya Harrison.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I started as a receptionist in 2018 and decided I wanted to do more than take payments and change vehicles. I decided to get licensed for life, health, commercial, auto, home, pet, and renters’ insurance, and here I am an agency owner 4 years later!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Oh my gosh, has it been a smooth road?!? Absolutely not! It has been hard; I feel like every obstacle known to man has come my way! Financing issues, personal issues, mental issues, employee issues. But is it worth it? Yes! I’m creating a legacy for my kids and I’ve learned a lot! Would I do it all over again?!? Yes! Differently, but yes!

Well, I am an insurance agent in Southwest Fort Worth. I own a Farmers’ Agency and I specialize in home, auto, renters, commercial, specialty, and life insurance for the entire state of Texas! I am most proud of the fact that I did not come from a rich family, I did my research put in the work, and got to where I am. Of course, I had help from friends and family but I did the hardest part on my own! When all other agents have money and experience, here I am this little colored girl shattering glass ceilings in a male-dominated profession, and am doing it quite well! What sets me apart is my grit, no matter what I am determined to succeed by any means necessary, I have an 8-year-old daughter and I want to show her that no matter what comes your way if Mommy can do it, so can you!
