Today we’d like to introduce you to Shandee Clay.
Hi Shandee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After going through my infertility journey in 2019 and having my miracle baby in 2020, I just experienced a sense of self-growth and self-worth like never before and wanted to continue to invest in myself. I had gotten my eyebrows microshaded in Dallas and absolutely loved the results. After some research, I realized no one else in my town offered this service, so I decided that I was at an advantage to be the only one in my hometown to offer this service. So, I found a training, and I went for it! After 10 years, then, being an esthetician and working in dermatology, I felt like I had finally found my niche. I have now been in business about 2.5 years, and I absolutely love creating beauty for the women of my community and helping women feel confident and “put together.” I have added a few medical-grade skin care treatments, like Fibroblast Plasama skin tightening and Microneedling, to my service list and am now able to cater to anti-aging needs, as well! I love creating art through permanent makeup and anti-aging services, and I look forward to continuing to learn and advance my skills each year!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Covid definitely made working and bringing in income very tough. On top of having a new baby. I felt like I was between a rock and hard place. I had to keep my doors opened, but also keep my child well. So, lots and lots of Covid health forms were utilized, and lots and lots of masks! Haha!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an esthetician of 12 years and a permanent makeup artist of going on 3 years. I am known for my permanent makeup microshading. I especially like a brow correction! It keeps me on my toes and is always a challenge, which is what makes this industry so fun! I am most proud of the fact that I am getting my name out in the public, attracting women from all the small communities surrounding my small town and that I never let a client leave my studio unhappy. I am EXTREMELY OCD and a perfectionist, and take pride in what I do!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I feel like every opportunity and endeavor comes with a little risk-taking. I just like to think of it as “putting it all in God’s hands.” What’s meant to be will be, but you’ll never know how great something can be and how much it’ll reproduce if you never take that leap of faith! I definitely took a leap of faith, or “risk,” jumping into this very wild industry! But, had I not believed in myself or had the “I have no choice but to succeed” mentality, I would have never known all the greatness I could achieve!
