Today we’d like to introduce you to Shane Abel.

Hi Shane, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started playing at 21. Guitar, piano, harmonica and singing. I started writing from day one. For a long time only my girlfriend and wife heard me play.

In 2012 I started playing in mostly cover bands.
In 2022 I started playing original music alone at open mics. I made a lot of good contacts in Dentons’s Songwriter Guild and in local bars.
In 2019 I started recording.
In 2023 released I released 33 songs on music platforms and youtube. 24 songs were short instrumental pieces for dance.
Most of my music is rock or folk. a lot of it bluesy or jazzy.
In 2024 I released 10 songs.
In 2025 I released 13 songs with my band Coins Or Bubble Wrap.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth. I probably spent 400 hours recording, mixing and mastering my most recent album. My band mates helped with the recording.

We play out at local bars.

Working around schedules almost makes it impossible.

I did manage to release my most recent recordings on vinyl and CDs.

A big challenge is trying to reduce time wasted. I do spend a lot of time playing with other musicians that I don’t record with. Some of it fruitful and some not.

Since 2023 I have put together shows with multiple musicians. At first I produced shows with comedians, poets, dancers and musicians. Then I switched to producing shows with 2-4 acts. Now I focus on my band and my 3 Rs. Write, record and release.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialized in writing music.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
It’s best to find someone that has knowledge of harmony and how to communicate it. It’s best if whoever you are working with knows the how western music is structured. Knowledge of music theory is a great help.

I’m fortunate that my three band mates read music. I’m the worst reader of all, but I write of the songs.
