Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started practicing yoga in 2012 and really enjoyed the benefits. At the time there were no studios in our area without driving 40 minutes away. With encouragement from friends I had the opportunity to build a studio on our ranch. In 2012 with the idea of “build it they will come”, my husband got started on Serenity! My vision for the studio was to make it a special place dedicated to women’s fitness and wellbeing. My hopes were to have enough members to pay my instructors. Classes filled up quickly! Presently the studio is still helping women maintain an overall better wellbeing physically and mentally. We offer three different styles of yoga; hatha, yin, and vinyasa.
Instructors address women’s issues with joint and muscle health. The benefits of yoga for women include improved flexibility, strength, and balance. It also supports mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. When you walk into the studio you’ll immediately feel a calmness! We want you to leave the stress outside the door!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There was a bit of a struggle along the way finding certified yoga instructors in our area. Most instructors were out of our area so it was a bit of a challenge. Finally with an influx of new people moving into our area I was lucky to find local instructors that were excited to teach! Today I have three wonderful certified instructors and I’m so appreciative!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Previously I had the opportunity to start a business where I could be creative with my own ideas. For ten years I had a business selling my own furniture designs and other merchandise in a huge marketplace. It’s very well known throughout Texas and other states. I’m sure many of your readers have been to 1st Monday Trade Days!! It was very hard work but gratifying.
What does success mean to you?
I’ve tried to seek out what people’s needs and wants are and go from there. With the yoga studio it basically was the same principle of their needs and wants and creating a welcoming space just for them. Success is seeing how grateful the ladies are for having this special place. They really love coming to Serenity and many say it’s their “happy place”.
