Meet Stephanie Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Houston.

Hi Stephanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My child was killed on 5/18/2019 and her death went viral. My child was Muhlaysia Booker, a beautiful transgender that was viciously attacked in April then was murdered a month one week later two separate incidents. Due to the worldwide coverage of love, support and hate. I started the Muhlaysia Booker Foundation in her memory and honor. The Foundation services transgender women and their families.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a bittersweet road. Muhlaysia was loved by so many people for so many different reasons. I struggle daily by trying to live without her and continue her same legacy goals just from a different viewpoint.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We cater to transgender women and family. We specialize in making both parties feel loved, respected and comfortable by providing housing, counseling, job training and readiness suicide awareness and support groups. I am most proud when parents reach out and ask for advice or help with trying to understand their transgender child or loved ones. What sets the Muhlaysia Booker Foundation apart is not only do we service the transgender community we serve and care about their families as well.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
That life can change instantly.
