Today we’d like to introduce you to Talesha Thomas.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been catering since I was 18 but when I met my husband seven years ago, he noticed I love to make sauces. We weren’t fond of what we were seeing in the stores in the shelves. There were a lot of products that had a lot of additives and preservatives. We started developing sauces together and decided to start our sauce business. We started in August of 2018. We make vinaigrettes and sauces. My husband and I are the only ones that create the recipes and make the vinaigrettes and sauces. We are food manufacturers and make everything in small batches at the commercial kitchen we are registered with. We use the Revolving Kitchen in Garland.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. We would like to get our products in small craft stores or Central Market or Whole Foods but a lot of stores ask if you are any other stores or ask how long we been in business. We would like to expand and start a restaurant but we haven’t had any luck with securing financing. We mostly do shows and farmers markets but that was a big issue in 2020 but we were lucky to be able to attend two weekly farmers markets in 2020.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work in accounting as my full-time job while also running our business. I have been in accounting for over 20 years and my husband is an estimator with a construction company and also run the business. We are very compassionate people and we never give up. We are most proud of our willingness to go on and make our business successful no matter how many obstacles we face.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say it was luck but just being in the right place at the right and all of the people we have met at shows and farmers markets has played a role in our business and our life.
