Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Dozier.
Hi Tammy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story !
Well , it’s complicated as they say . However God has been rich in mercy .
I’m originally from Kansas City, Missouri but relocated to Texas in 1996.
I began writing books to share my story of childhood trauma that stemmed from an absent father , molestation failed marriages , drug use and alcohol abuse .
I wanted to share my story because now as an ordained Pastor people need to be made aware of the transformative power of God .
My first book series entitled Death of a Bag Lady was intended to be four parts . But before I could publish the third installment the Lord halted me. I had been sharing my story but had never been given a language or title to all that I had experienced.. After becoming a Certfied Grief Educator in 2022 it was apparent ! I had much unprocessed grief. This lead me to publish my latest release The Misconceptions of Grief , What Nobody Told Me.
I had experienced so much pain and disappointment but never processed it
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of my biggest struggles was returning to school in 2012. I had graduated high school in 1983. .
But I knew that I needed formal education since accepting my call to the preaching ministry.
In 2010 I became licensed as a minister and went on to become the first person ordained by the Koinonia Christian Church in Arlington,TX . Senior Pastor Ronnie W. Goines . My husband Matthew and I have served there since 2006!
Later on in 2016 I graduated with honors from Foster College in Dallas ,Texas .
School was difficult because I also worked full time before retiring from the City of Irving Police Department. However I did it all with the Lord on my side!
Since that time I’ve hosted women’s conferences, spoken at numerous community events and was an honored facilitator at the National Funeral Director’s and Mortician’s Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Certfied Grief Educator and National Public Speaker. . I stand on stages and I help people heal.
I speak about the true meaning of grief , how it can affect us , its misconceptions and offer practical tools for healing .
I’m known for being relatable and I’m pretty funny . I also enjoy dancing .
I feel these attributes are different simply because in my field of expertise people expect me to be solemn . However at every speaking engagement there will be laughing , I share from lived experiences and we end the sessions with a dance to celebrate our loved ones and the fact that we are still getting up another day!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing our grandsons grow into young men and knowing we’ve taught them to have manners and morals .
As far as my business , I’m happy when I see my work being valued in the community and abroad. Or someone telling me they’ve attended an event I spoke at and how much they learned about grief .
