Today we’d like to introduce you to Tan Tang.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In my last year of school. My son got extremely sick and became hospitalized. I had to quickly go back to working full time to make ends meet. It was such a humbling experience to have to go back to the hospitality industry. Eventually became a manager at a small burger bar. From there, wanted to pursue management in the hospitality industry because it was quite easy for me. I filled an application out for a company called First Watch and didn’t realize that it would change my life. I got hired as an Operations Manager and was quickly promoted to General Manager. I am currently holding the position as General Manager over a busy location in Plano. I continue to grow like a wildflower with knowledge in the kitchen, as well as a business savvy owner. This has translated directly to my side hustle as well. I have an Instagram @screwed_kicks where I resell some of the hottest and hardest to obtain sneakers. It’s become a small hustle that bred from my real passion, taking care of the city of Plano with some of the best breakfast and lunch. I can also proudly say that I have sought out some of the coolest sneakers for some of Texas and now have shipped to several other states. To say the least, this journey is far from over, but merely the beginning.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. To say the least, when my son was born, he was hospitalized and it took a toll on my family. Had to spend lots of time in the hospital and eventually had to drop out of college.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
General Manager for First Watch. I am a chef and am very business savvy. Also, small business owner @screwed_kicks. I sell some of the hottest and hardest-to-obtain sneakers on the side. First Watch has taught me how to move like a business owner. Taught me to stand ten toes down with faith. Just smile everything works out in the end with hard work.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 presented lots of staffing issues and sudden changes to supply. The adjustments made caused me to become more resilient.
