Today we’d like to introduce you to Tess Hevener.
Hi Tess, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have loved makeup since I was a little girl who watched her grandma get ready at her vanity every day during summer vacation. I enjoyed collecting and applying makeup to myself and found a passion for helping women to feel beautiful in 2019. I did makeup for my best friend’s wife at their wedding, and my company, Blend by Tess, was born in January 2020! I started by learning as much as I could, and I was lucky enough to have a handful of brides trust me to glam them for their wedding days that year. I also met my current business partner, Amber, in 2020 at a wedding we were hired independently for in Dallas. We probably only spoke two words to one another at that wedding, but I reached out to her a couple months later when I had a client who also wanted hair services. It turned out that Amber only lived about 10 minutes from me, and our partnership and friendship was born! We have evolved, grown, and built an amazing team over the last three years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I started my business in January 2020, so that year came with the challenges of Covid. In a way, that was a blessing as it allowed me time to ease into the industry, meet Amber, grow organically, and learn along the way without being rushed. I’m so thankful for all of my 2020 Covid brides who trusted me and allowed me to be a part of their story during such a difficult time.
I also lost my dad in February 2022 which was our busiest year to date. It was incredibly hard to grieve while building a business, but makeup also gave me an outlet to express myself and have something special to throw myself into. My dad was incredibly proud of my business, and I know he’s watching and helping us grow.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My business partner, Amber, and I own a hair and makeup team, which is such a dream! We specialize in bridal and special events and provide on-location services. We also have a studio in north Fort Worth/Alliance area. We are so proud to have expanded our team in the last 6 months to include some extremely talented full-time artists and assistants—- this is how the 2Girls1Brush Beauty team was born! We love soft glam but can offer and execute whatever look you envision. We are well known for our social media content & TikTok videos and for our outgoing and funny personalities. We offer several services that are unique such as glitter glam and content creation too!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Overall, I’m most happy when I’m able to be creative, successful, making others happy, and spending time with friends and family. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Caroline, for 5 years, and we have 5 dogs. I volunteer for the local pug rescue, and I’m extremely passionate about dog rescue. My wife and I love to pugsit for local pugs, try new craft beer/fun drinks, try new restaurants and concerts.
Bridal beauty makes me extremely happy as well— being involved in someone’s big day is so incredible and such an honor!
