Rising Stars: Meet Tiara Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Cole.

Hi Tiara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Born in a small town called Childersburg, AL, music was a big part of my life. Whenever my family would have gatherings, we made it our business to have “family music sessions”. Music was the root of me. Around the age of two, I was singing more than I was talking. Once my family realized my gift, they started putting me in the forefront.

They had me sing almost every Sunday at church as well as every family event, lol!! From then on, I knew singing was what I wanted to do! I loved how my gift could bring others so much joy. However, fear and lack of confidence had me stagnant. Opportunities had begun to slip away from me because I was too afraid to do them alone or because I didn’t think that I was good enough. I then attended Jarvis Christian College, where some of the staff members and students had taken a liking to my voice and began asking me to perform at different events on campus.

Although I was afraid to do it, I would always accept. I knew that little by little I would grow to have the confidence that everyone else had already had in me. I then knew that pursuing a music career was so much more in my reach than I thought. I am proud to say that I have released my first single called “Boomerang”. The journey has been long but I’m starting to slowly but surely see the pieces come together!!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy road, From bad performances to rejection, to losing one of the most important people (my mother) in my life. It has all been a struggle. “No” is something you never want to hear when auditioning for anything and I honestly thought I had escaped it. I was contacted to be a part of “The Voice”. Went through several auditions and made it to the blind auditions. I then got a phone call from the producers saying they had changed their minds about my selection.

That really put a damper on my confidence. But I knew that I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t allow that to be the end of my story. Shortly before that, I lost my best friend, my mother. My mother was my everything! My biggest supporter, my comfort, my safe haven, I knew that no matter what I went through my mother would always be there. December 19, 2016, my entire life changed! The only person that I knew had me, was gone! The emptiness I felt was unreal. I can truly say that if it had not been for God and my family, I would not be where I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently an elementary music teacher. Where I get to not only showcase my talents and help others find theirs but I also get to make an impact on the lives of the children!! Although I love the children, I still want to perform full time. So I try to stay in the studio as much as possible as well as find time for open mics. I am so proud of myslef for staying the course and slowly but surely reaching my goals. Even though I just have a single out right now, I know that it’s a step closer to the music career I want.

What matters most to you?
The thing that matters to me most, is making my mother proud. She was my #1 fan. She always pushed me to greatest potiental because she knew that I would and that I could make it. Because of that, I want nothing more than to strive and hustle to become the star she knew I would become!!
