Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Wilhelm-Wood.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There has been some new and exciting news since our last interview. My journey has taken me on new paths! Let us look at a brief recap of where it all started and today’s update.
I started in the cheer industry around 2003-04, in football and sideline cheer. I enjoyed everything about the football side of cheer. I served as board President, Cheerleader, and football Director for over ten years. Around 2005, my journey took my career into the world of competitive cheerleading. I became a gym owner for life!
This was a whole new industry and a very exciting one. I have been blessed with my Cheer gyms, which include Renegades, Midcities Cheer, Infinity Cheer Force, Texas Rampage Allstars, and my new home gym, Texas Crush Athletics. I have always built my reputation on trust, integrity, and morals. I hope that I have passed that down to all of my previous and current athletes.
I have spent all these years in the DFW area, from Tarrant County, Greyson County, Collin County, Rockwall County, and now out to SouthEast Texas to Orange County. I wrapped up Texas Rampage this May of 2024; it was very emotional to say goodbye, especially to the kids who have grown with me and the coaches who worked beside me.
Now as my journey brings me to Texas Crush, I cannot wait to bring my passion to this gym!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No business or sport is easy! There have been many struggles over the years. Times I have wanted to give up, but could not do that to my athletes. We have so many amazing memories and funny stories that outweigh any bumps we have had.
I hope I can bring many amazing memories to my new athletes, and they will treasure them always. The most important part of this whole industry/coaching and being a gym owner has taught me patience, understanding of all types of kids and their emotions, and how kids just want to be heard and understood.
Never give up on a child!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with your work?
Many people who are not in this industry sometimes look at cheerleading as a pom-pom sport standing on a football field. It is so much more than that!
School cheer is a sport, they work hard, train hard not just to cheer on Friday night lights. As a previous High School cheer coach (a brief moment in my career) our goal was NCA and UIL competitions. The amount of hard work and dedication I have witnessed in school cheer is rewarding to see.
For the Allstar cheer industry – High intense levels of training! If you have ever seen a competition team perform on media or in person, you can see some wild, cool, and hard skills being performed. The amount of hours spent in the gym and the heart of these athletes is the best feeling to witness.
I like to think I have contributed the passion for this sport to every child I have trained. I am proud of my ability to calm most all situations, give support and advice to my athletes even outside of the cheer topic. It is important to me to offer a safe, positive and supportive role for these athletes.
What are your plans for the future?
My future plans now hold a spot in SouthEast Texas! Texas Crush Athletics is now my cheer family. This will be season 4 for Crush and I cannot wait to get things started.
At Crush, we have a great philosophy of providing a positive atmosphere and passion for seeing these kids succeed; I am looking forward to bringing new ideas, fresh industry challenges, and getting to know everyone. I am working on a few different plans for the upcoming future. I am hoping and excited it all unfolds! You will have to check back to see what came about for Coach Tdawg (Tiffany).
In loving memory of Chance Tyler Stovall – Texas Rampage lost this young man Feb. 2024, this was the greatest challenge for me, coaches, my athletes just everyone in our cheer family and beyond. Chance was our biggest supporter and we love you always.
