Today we’d like to introduce you to Triana.
Triana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist, and my creative journey has taken me through a few different mediums over the years. I went to the Art Institute for graphic design and earned my BFA. After college, I worked in graphic design for a few years before eventually going freelance and offering my own graphic design services.
Over time, I realized I wanted to work more with my hands, which led me in a completely different direction and eventually to starting my own jewelry business. Within my jewelry work, I’m a lampworker, so I make my own glass beads, and I’ve also been learning and developing my skills in metalworking and metalsmithing.
I’ve always been someone with a lot of creative ideas, so painting has always been a big part of what I do. I’m constantly experimenting, learning new techniques, and figuring out how I want to express myself through each medium. I think that’s what I enjoy most about being a multidisciplinary artist — I don’t feel like I have to stick to just one thing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been a lot of bumps along the way, from making mistakes and figuring out how to learn from them, to navigating which direction to take and learning to trust my own intuition.
A big part of the journey has also been gaining knowledge and constantly working on advancing my skills. With lampworking especially, there are a lot of challenges that come with the setup itself. It’s not something you can just pick up and do anywhere. You need the proper equipment, ventilation, space, and safety setup because you’re working with fumes and an open flame. So a lot of the process has been figuring out how to create those resources for myself and make it possible to keep growing.
I think the biggest thing I’ve learned through all of it is that the bumps are really part of the process. Every mistake, challenge, or change in direction has taught me something and helped me get a little more confident in trusting myself and my creative instincts.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d say I’m a graphic designer, jewelry maker, and painter, although these days my main focus is on my jewelry and lampworking. Graphic design was where I started, and while I don’t really offer design services anymore, I’ll still take on a small project if it’s something I really connect with — usually music-related projects or things for my own creative work.
With my jewelry, I specialize in lampworking, which is something I’m really focused on growing and developing. I make my own glass beads and incorporate them into my pieces, while also continuing to build my skills in metalsmithing. I’ve also done quite a few bracelet commissions, which have given me opportunities to experiment, problem-solve, and push my skills further.
Painting is another important part of my work. I create paintings and sell prints because I like the idea of sharing a piece of myself with people in their own homes. But it’s not necessarily about sharing me — it’s more about sharing my thoughts, ideas, and feelings in a way that someone else can look at and see themselves in.
I think what sets me apart is that I don’t really want to be limited to one medium. My background in graphic design, jewelry, glass, metalwork, and painting all influence each other. I’m always learning and experimenting, and I think that shows up in the work. What I’m most proud of is continuing to build something that feels genuinely like mine, even when the path to get there hasn’t always been clear.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as going after what it is you truly want in this life. Everyone’s goals and dreams are different, so I don’t believe there’s one universal definition of success. To me, as long as you’re continuing to grow, challenging yourself, striving to become the best version of yourself, and actively pursuing the dreams you have, then you are successful.
