Hi tuere, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Let me share a bit about my background. I’ll start by describing the charming town of Melville, Louisiana, a place known for its warm hospitality and delectable cuisine. Growing up, I believed that my parents were exceptional cooks. However, this changed when I ventured out as an adult and tasted dishes from other families. I realized that my parents’ culinary repertoire was limited to salt, pepper, bay leaves, and Lawry’s seasoning.
Following a failed attempt at preparing a meal for my partner’s family in South Louisiana, I became determined to enhance my culinary skills. I spent nearly a year observing and learning from masterful cooks. One Sunday, while my family attended church for 7 hours (Black Church) I dedicated 7 hours to crafting a Cajun feast, which I happily presented upon their return. Although my romantic relationship concluded, I was able to walk away with Ms. Bettie’s Gumbo recipe, a culinary masterpiece that I proudly claim as my own.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To address the issue of customers coughing during the COVID-19 pandemic, I added Sizzurp to Ms. Bettie’s Gumbo to minimize any potential discomfort only those with a specific sense of humor, such as Sagittarius or Lil Wayne, would understand and appreciate it.
However, on a more serious note, I encountered a unique challenge. While serving 3-ounce samples of Ms. Bettie’s Gumbo, I observed a woman as her husband expressed that it was the best Gumbo he had ever tasted. The term If looks could kill, I would be dead. Fortunately, I continue to have the same problem.

After extensive research, I’m confident that my gumbo will exceed expectations and introduce a new level of excitement to Gumbo lovers. By infusing Cannabis into my gumbo, I will create a delicious and innovative collaboration. With my exceptional culinary skills, I can make a product that stands out in a crowded market.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
This is my second attempt at opening Ms. Bettie’s Gumbo. Despite initial success with strong sales, recurring customers, and positive reviews, I found myself feeling stagnant and eventually decided to close my business. It became clear that I needed to expand into a new market by introducing new recipes. To achieve this, I sought out a mentor and invested in her guidance. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made. She gently inspires me by suggesting new ways for personal and entrepreneurial growth.
