Today we’d like to introduce you to William Campbell
Hi William, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a heart for service. My journey began in education, where I was passionate about making an impact in the lives of students. However, I quickly realized that my calling extended beyond the classroom—I wanted to create a broader, lasting impact in the community.
With that in mind, I set out to start my own nonprofit, It Takes a Man, only to discover that I lacked the necessary knowledge and experience to build and sustain an organization effectively. That realization pushed me to further my education, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the decision to pursue a master’s degree in nonprofit management. This step allowed me to transition fully into the nonprofit space, where I gained invaluable experience working within the sector.
However, my journey took an unexpected turn. After securing a new role, I faced a sudden and unfortunate budget cut that led to my position being eliminated just three months in. With a family to support and no time to dwell on the setback, I had to pivot quickly. In December 2024, out of necessity, I officially launched Campbell Consulting Firm.
Initially, I focused on building CRM systems for companies, but in doing so, I uncovered a deeper need—nonprofits were struggling with strategy and structure. Through continuous learning, hands-on experience, and participation in various cohorts, I refined my business model to what it is today: a consulting firm dedicated to helping nonprofits and businesses build sustainable, impactful strategies.
What started as a challenge has evolved into a purpose-driven business, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to empower organizations to create meaningful change.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. When I first started, I had no fundamental understanding of what it meant to be an entrepreneur. There’s so much information, but finding the right resources and guidance was challenging.
It wasn’t until I went through the Impact Ventures Readiness Cohort that I truly grasped what it meant to be fiscally responsible in my business. That experience and the mentorship and sponsorship opportunities that came with it helped me refine my approach—learning to be more customer-focused and strategic. One of the biggest lessons I learned was that not every opportunity is right. I had to understand my capacity and become intentional about my work.
My first year in business was a record year, but things took a turn, and I found myself without clients. That moment forced me to reevaluate my approach. I’m more intentional about who I work with, focusing on long-term projects rather than short-term engagements. That shift has allowed me to build more sustainable, impactful partnerships and continue growing in a way that aligns with my mission and values.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My career started part-time at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington, where I developed a deep passion for youth development. From there, I transitioned into education, spending about six years working in Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) and various charter schools. During that time, I held multiple roles, including High School Math Teacher (Algebra I & Geometry), Early College Coordinator, Scholar Support Specialist, and ultimately ended my time in education as a Social Emotional Learning Coordinator at Dallas ISD. My career has also included working in the nonprofit space, particularly in youth development, and serving on the board for Park South YMCA.
Now, I specialize in serving as a Strategy Officer for organizations, helping them expand their impact, secure more resources, and build stronger connections. I’m known for bringing structure to ideas, increasing funding opportunities, and creating sustainable strategies that align with an organization’s mission.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the trajectory of my career and the diversity of positions I’ve held. People often ask how I’ve been able to do so much, but many don’t realize that my career started early—I was an Early College graduate and began working in the school system at 19 years old. That early start and my ability to adapt and learn quickly has allowed me to build a strong foundation across multiple industries, from education to nonprofit leadership and strategy.
What sets me apart is my versatility and strategic mindset—I don’t just help organizations function; I help them thrive. My ability to connect the dots, see the bigger picture, and develop actionable plans makes me a valuable partner for those looking to grow and make a lasting impact.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people who know me professionally is that I love to garden and work in the yard. It’s my happy place—where I can slow down, be present, and enjoy the process of nurturing something from the ground up. Just like in my work, I find joy in cultivating growth, whether it’s in organizations or my own backyard.
