Today we’d like to introduce you to William Rosser.
Hi William, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve had the entrepreneurial spirit since I was a child. I mowed lawns, picked up soda bottles, repaired bicycles and had a paper route. I came from a family of carpenters but rebelled and started a job as a trainee painting apartments at 17. By the time I was 22 I had an opportunity to start my own business in Dallas when my boss retired. I stepped up to service all of his accounts. As time went on I couldn’t deny my carpentry skills and started offering a full service remodeling and small construction business. Fast forward to present day. I’ve scaled back and most of my work is in Parker County Texas and a short distance into surrounding counties. We are experts at residential exterior and interior painting as well as deck, porch cover and carport construction.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Economic slowdowns and recessions have been a huge challenge. I learned over the years to never sell or pawn my tools because people eventually have to maintain their homes. You have to have tools to ply your trade. Another challenge has been finding workers to do the jobs to my standards. I am really picky. They have to be as skilled as I am or able to learn fast. I am really picky and want every client to have the best possible outcome and recommend us and be repeat customers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an expert in coatings. I can inspect a house, recommend repairs and then determine the best products to use to ensure a long lasting, protective finish to ensure the beauty of your home and protect your investment. I also am an expert in the construction of decks and exceed recommended load, length and span for the type of treated lumber used. This eliminates sagging and wobbling and ensures your safety. I excel at deck design and the construction of low impact steps. These types of steps are easier to use and help older and people with knee issues to get up and down without pain. Ive included several pictures of various decks with low impact steps that ive built. All of my skilled technicians have my motto drilled into them until it becomes second nature. “We Care and Pay Attention to Detail!”
What were you like growing up?
I was a little guy until I hit puberty at 11 1/2 years old. People say I was a cute little charmer. I’d pull my red wagon around and collect Coke bottles then cash them in for 3 cents each. I’d also push our lawn mower around and mow yards. Three dollars. That was a lot of money for a kid in the late 1960s. When I got older I had a paper route. I always excelled at getting new customers. I would win contests selling newspaper subscriptions and whatever fundraisers my school was having. I learned really young the secret to selling is to always do what you say. Don’t make false promises. Tell people why they need what you’re selling. Be honest. Then shut up! Let them do the talking. Answer their questions honestly and never use high pressure. What you’re offering is not for everyone. Don’t Be pushy! And ALWAYS be true to your word.
