Selina Lopez on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Selina Lopez and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Selina, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that brings me joy outside of work is working out! It is a necessity and makes me feel good. I can’t pour from an empty cup.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi there! I’m Selina Lopez, a Dallas–Fort Worth-based Realtor with a passion for helping families find their perfect home. Before stepping into real estate, I was a teacher, so educating and guiding people is truly in my DNA. I’m a proud TCU alumna, a mom, and someone who values faith, family, and supporting local businesses.

My brand, @selinalopezdfw, is all about making real estate feel personal, approachable, and empowering—especially for first-time homebuyers and families planting roots in the DFW area. I love sharing market tips, neighborhood highlights, and a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to buy or sell a home in today’s market.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a curious, creative, and compassionate girl who loved helping others, dreaming big, and imagining all the possibilities life could offer. I didn’t see limitations—only opportunities. I was someone who believed deeply in connection, in the power of community, and in the beauty of making people feel seen and supported. That part of me never left; I’ve just learned to bring her into everything I do now—with purpose, faith, and a whole lot of heart.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—absolutely. This industry is competitive and tough. I’ve always known I loved real estate because I truly love helping others, but there was a time when I wasn’t seeing the success reflected in the numbers. It was discouraging. I questioned if I was doing enough or if I was even cut out for it. But over time, I’ve learned that success doesn’t always show up immediately—and that doesn’t mean you’re not growing. I’ve learned to keep showing up for myself and for my business, even on the quiet days. People are always watching, and when the time is right, they’ll know exactly who to call. I just have to keep planting the seeds and trusting the process.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the real estate industry tells itself is that success is instant if you just “work hard” or “post more.” The truth is, this business takes time, consistency, and real connection—not just flashy marketing or overnight wins. Another big lie is that you have to constantly hustle or be everything to everyone. In reality, the most successful agents are the ones who stay authentic, build relationships, and play the long game. It’s not just about closing deals—it’s about serving people well and building trust over time.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people remember me as someone who was kind, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand. I hope they say I was a good friend—someone who showed up, listened, and loved well. I want to be remembered as a good mom who loved her family deeply and fiercely. And beyond everything, I hope people say they saw a light in me—through the way I lived, loved, and served.
