We recently had the chance to connect with Shubhangi Pandey and have shared our conversation below.
Shubhangi, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I drink my herbal tea first thing in the morning while relaxing on my couch and then I love to spend another 45 minutes on a dance workout which I do at home. I absolutely love dancing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a scientist by profession, working in the field of Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases at UT southwestern Medical center.
But I am truly a paper artist by passion, making delightful and colorful quilled jewelry for my beautiful customers. My small business goes by the name “Gehna” meaning jewelry in Hindi.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My first ever market exhibition, it was a two-day event and the response was just outstanding on the first day that my shop was almost half empty and I quilled my bestsellers overnight for the next day exhibit.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
My mom says that I have always been a silent kid, there was no troublemaking and for my entertainment I would always chose a corner spot at home to sit and paint. Painting and crafting always made me happy. I would draw portraits as a kid, fill colors and run around the house with a feeling of accomplishment. I still remember those moments- what a carefree life it was!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My parents-lol! They have all the power in this world to make me do what they really want me to do- I never go against their will. But yet, they have always considered my opinions and respected my decisions since my adolescence. I truly admire them for their parenting and making me who I am today.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I have this habit of constantly working on myself, to improve my behavior, my thoughts and my actions. I work hard to make myself a better person. I scrutinize myself at the end of the day to shed light on what went wrong and how it can be made better. Sometimes that’s overwhelming and demoralizing for me.
I would immediately stop doing that and start living my remaining life the way I am.
