Steven Trevino of Grand Prairie on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Steven Trevino shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Steven, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity builds trust and credibility with others. It helps guide you in proper decision-making choices.
Without integrity, intelligence and energy don’t mean much. Integrity means doing the right thing, being honest, keeping your word, and staying true to who you are and who you’re trying to help.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Steven Treviño, founder of I Scoop Poop where your dog’s business is our business. My brother Tony and I run a family-owned pet waste removal company serving the South Dallas/Fort Worth area. We pride ourselves on delivering reliable, respectful service to around 500 weekly and bi-weekly customers, helping busy pet parents enjoy their outdoor spaces. We scoop so they never have to worry about picking up dog poop again! This December marks eight years I’ve been drug free from opiates and prescription pills! A huge milestone that fuels my focus on integrity, consistency, and giving back! I’m grateful for a loving family and a wonderful wife. I give God all of the credit.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’ve served my purpose by sticking with it through hard times, beating addiction, and letting God lead me. I spent 32 month incarcerated, started a company from scratch, built a life with a wife and a baby on the way, and grew a business that supports others. Now my job is to share my story to help people grow. And to show what’s possible when you stay accountable and keep your faith.

What must be released? The fear, shame, and doubt that say I’m stuck in the past. Sometimes I feel if I share my story to others that I will be judged. I have overcome a lot and I shouldn’t be ashamed

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me things success never could. It’s the true cost of my choices, the fragility of freedom, and the power of redemption. I spent 32 months incarcerated, I hit rock bottom, and lost everything I cared about most. The humiliation and loneliness forced me to look in the mirror and own my part in it. That’s where I found a lasting promise to never go back to that life. Since my release, the pressure isn’t to prove I’m “great” in a flashy way. But it’s to stay straight, show up, and do right by my family, my team, and the people we serve. Suffering gave me spine, humility, and a purpose. It gave me a work ethic that success alone could never teach. Suffering gave me a relationship with God and success came with it.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire Theo Von for his character, not his power. He’s someone who stayed true to himself and his story. Even as he found success. His humor comes from real experiences, and his sobriety shows discipline and courage. I appreciate how he uses his platform to keep it real, to laugh, and to connect with others without pretending to be more than he is. That’s authenticity and the influence he has on others is what I respect most.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand deeply that this is a spiritual world we live in, and there’s a real battle between good and evil that the human eye cannot see. We can all feel it and sense it. Some can even identify it. I understand that we humans were created by God. I know that the devil hates God’s creation which is mankind and he will do anything to destroy it. He seeks our souls. So I follow Jesus Christ, because he is the only one who can defeat the spiritual battles we face every day. I deeply understand this, and I wish everyone knew how important and permanent this is.
