Story & Lesson Highlights with Anthony Dempsey

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Anthony Dempsey. Check out our conversation below.

Anthony, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I typically wake up, check my email and mentally line out my day as I eagerly wait for my 4 year old daughter to wake up. We’ll either start our day by practicing a little Japanese, or I’ll just play toys with her until breakfast, before I get started on work stuff. It just gives me a chance to connect with her first thing in the morning and start off on a fun note.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Anthony Dempsey, Corporate Magician & Mentalist! I’m an icebreaker for work events and I also facilitate interaction at events. I basically make events not boring! Something that makes me unique, in my opinion, is that I started off as a theatre major. I mastered the art of performing before I had even thought of magic and mentalism as a career. So I think my solid foundation in performing arts has given me a nice advantage.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was much younger and I saw an excellent magic show. I thought and thought about the show for a long time and I finally figured out how a trick could be done. It made me realize that although some things seem impossible at first, with the right mindset and skill, anything can be possible.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
All the things teachers tell you not to do- like being the center of attention, making people laugh, goofing around- will someday end up being a successful career that takes you around the world. Don’t be afraid to be who you are!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Being honest is something that’s really important to me. If I’m not right for an event, I don’t pretend to be. I always want to give clients their money’s worth for my performance, so if I’m hired for strolling magic and there’s a few people who haven’t yet seen me when my time’s up, I’ll just stay until everyone has gotten to see something.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want people to know about the time I was 15 years old and I got kicked out of a Cici’s Pizza because I ate 45 slices of pizza. Did it feel great? No. Was it a victory? Yes.
