We recently had the chance to connect with Armando Sebastian and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Armando , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I really enjoy swimming. I used to swim when I was in high school but then over the years with the rhythm of life and the time I spend doing my practice I stoped doing it, In the pass few years I have been able to get back to do it regularl.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I grew up in Monterrey Mexico and I have spent the second half of my life in the US. Being a Mexican immigrant that was always drawn to American art and pop-culture has definitely influenced my creative process and the way I approach my practice. I am a self-taught Artist my work is mainly inspired by life experiences, rooted in autobiographical details from my childhood and adolescence. I use media to tell stories through my art and explore questions of identity and gender.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I’ve decided to move to the US and leave my whole life behind, my family and friends, my belongings and everything I knew about who I was.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. Not knowing the language not having a support system and the culture shock made me wanting to go back at times
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family and quality time
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Procrastinating
