Ashley, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I just recently got engaged and wedding planning definitely brings more joy to my everyday life!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ashley aka Trueslayer. I am a 26 year old hairstylist and makeup artist. I’ve been in the beauty industry going on 8 years now. I also have a Christian based hair extensions company called Trueluxee.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with God has mostly shaped how I see myself.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure and recognition has held me back most in my life. I would always procrastinate on doing something pertaining to my business because i feared failing at it. I never understood my full potential because of worrying about the opinions of others and being seen.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closets friends would say helping and uplifting others really matters to me.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop overworking and overextending myself. Prioritize myself more and enjoy more of life. I love the business that I have and I put my all into it each and everyday. I neglect taking care of myself sometimes unintentionally. But I pour into others everyday, I can’t forget to pour back into myself too.
