Story & Lesson Highlights with Brynndah Hicks Cummings of Mesquite, Surrounding area

We recently had the chance to connect with Brynndah Hicks Cummings and have shared our conversation below.

Brynndah , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Learning to play the piano. This is something I stopped doing in junior high school. I started all over again in January 2025.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello again. Thank you for the opportunity to share a little bit about myself, my brand and vision Since retiring in 2023 from Dallas College, I have launched 4BHC Publisher to create and self-publish children’s books. We released our first title on Amazon.com, July 26, 2025. I am happy to report the book has been embraced by children, librarians and educators with a 4.5 rating. The book is titled “ The Principal’s Daughter. It is available in English and Spanish.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe trust and respect are earned in all types of relationships. When that trust is abused, betrayed or broken it is a challenge to maintain respect. Restoration is possible if all parties are willing to discuss, face the issues with honesty and move forward.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Ugh! Good question. “ What would you do if you weren’t Afraid” is a poster that hung on my office wall during my 9-5 working life. Now it hang’s in the home office. It is a reminder that I do not have all the answers but, I must move forward afraid even if I fail.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have a children’s book project for my grandchildren I plan to complete.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
How interesting to ask if I am tap dancing at work.LOL. Few people know the musical theater side of my life. Or the MGM musicals I watched during cold winters growing up in Nebraska, to escape the thoughts of a far away spring. While working at Dallas College-Eastfield Campus my direct supervisor allowed me to participate in the spring musical. “ Back to Broadway” . Or maybe it was way off Broadway. I have to check the playbill. The point is, during that semester of rehearsals, dancing and hitting my mark, it was different driving to work. I was on a couple of clouds. On the other side of the applause, curtain pulled back, and the many “great job” compliments to the leads, and me ( part of the company) I did realize the hard work that actors, dancers, performers go through is not for the half committed. It’s an ALL IN contract. Another time, I performed with our Jazz Band! Once again, it was all about preparing for one song. Oh, but my goodness, it was the most fun at work.
