Story & Lesson Highlights with Devon Carter of Dallas, Rockwall, Frisco

We recently had the chance to connect with Devon Carter and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Honestly, it’s the foundation. Not the jewelry, not the homes, but the foundation behind it all.

People usually see the glitz and glamour of what I do. From the jewelry I design through Balacia Jewelry, or the homes I help my clients buy and sell as a Realtor®. But what they don’t see are the nights spent designing, learning, praying, and trying to balance being a husband, dad, and entrepreneur all at once.

What I’m most proud of building is the trust, the consistency, and the mindset that everything I touch should reflect faith, family, and excellence.

In real estate, I help people find homes that build generational wealth. At Balacia, I design rings that symbolize forever. Both are connected, and it’s all about creating legacies that last.

So yeah, what people don’t see is the work behind the scenes, but that’s the part that really means the most to me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Devon Carter, and I help people build legacies through real estate and beautiful jewelry. via my wife and I’s brand, Balacia. I’m also a Realtor® with Monument Realty, serving the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where I focus on helping first-time buyers and investors build wealth through homeownership.

I’m also the co-founder of Balacia Jewelry, a luxury brand my wife and I created that specializes in custom engagement rings and wedding bands. What makes both sides of my work special is the same thing, attention to detail, faith, and genuine care for people.

Whether it’s helping someone find their dream home or designing their perfect piece of jewelry, my goal is to make every client feel safe and valued.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
That would have to be my high school teacher, Mr. Cutler, at Oakland Mills High in Columbia, Maryland. He was the first person who really introduced me to the world of business and investing.

He made entrepreneurship feel exciting and achievable. I give him a lot of credit for planting that seed early on and showing me that business isn’t just about making money, it’s also about creating something meaningful and helping people. A lot of what I learned from him still sticks with me today, whether I’m designing jewelry or helping someone buy their first home.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
To be honest, I’m still learning how to do that. I’ve always been the person people come to when they need to vent or need strength, but I’ve never been great at showing my own emotions. For a long time, I saw that as a weakness.

Over time, though, I realized it’s actually part of my strength. Life throws things at all of us. Challenges, disappointments, losses, and while I might not always talk about what I’m going through, I’ve learned how to channel that energy into my purpose. When I’m designing jewelry, I pour emotion into every detail. When I’m helping clients in real estate, I show up with empathy because I understand struggle.

So even if I still hide parts of my pain, I’ve learned to turn it into fuel. It reminds me to keep going, to keep building, and to keep helping others find beauty and strength in their own stories too.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
My faith in God, without question. It’s the foundation for everything I do in business, family, and life.

No matter how busy life gets, I never want to lose sight of that. My faith keeps me humble, grateful, and aligned with my purpose.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Absolutely. When I first moved to Texas, my dream was to work in the sports industry. I studied Sports Management at the University of North Texas and went on to work with some amazing teams and organizations here in North Texas. It was exciting, but deep down, I knew something was missing.

Now, I realize what I was really searching for was purpose. Today, I feel truly fulfilled helping people start new chapters. From engagement rings to first homes, being part of someone’s journey from marriage to homeownership gives me a sense of meaning that no job title ever could.
