ipshita (Ippi) roy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi ipshita (Ippi), thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I like to drink 40 oz of warm water with turmeric, black pepper and lemon. I have this everyday empty stomach and I feel it really helps me to cleanse my body and detox it. Turmeric has a lot of anti-inflammatory, anti-septic properties but it needs to be consumed with something spicy for the human body to fully absorb it. It is an essential part of Indian diet, however, being in america my diet has adapted so I am unable to add it to my food everyday. But having this in the morning has made my skin brighter, clearer and reduced water retention in my body.
I follow this up with 10 mins of meditation and 30 mins of vocal exercises with a Tanpura or a shruti box that helps me open up my voice as a singer and the vibrations help me stay grounded and focussed.
I finish my morning routine with a cup of black coffee.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ipshita Roy, but everyone here calls me Ippi. I am a performing artist who is also an educator. I am a multilingual and multi instrumentalist Jazz singer and songwriter. My music is available on all digital music platforms. In addition to this, I have my own teaching studio with a total of 35 students that I teach piano, guitar and voice privately.
I am also the musical director and bandleader for Dallas’ premier Bollywood band called the “Dallas Bollywood Project.” Our next performance is 6th November 2025 at Toyota Music Factory.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I am currently in a phase of life where I am learning to block all negative energy. I am someone who gets easily affected by other people’s opinion of me. While on the face of it, I may look strong but it is a constant battle within myself. Recently, I’ve has a revelation where I have stopped caring about other people’s opinion of me and I am just doing what I want to. I am not worried about how perfect it is, whether it is good or bad. I am just being myself and a motto that I keep reminding myself everyday is “BE CRINGE.”
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me resilience and how to stay consistent irrespective of what is going on in your life. Hard times and suffering has taught me that discipline is not a process. Discipline is the goal.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Sometimes it is very important to let go of people and places that no longer align with you or the version of you, you seek to be.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Not giving my 100 %. Somewhere deep down I feel like I wish I had come to the realizations I currently have earlier, but I can’t go back. I can only move forward.
