Jazmine Lofton shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Jazmine, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
II’m being called to live in the moment and just do it—literally, like Nike says. I’ve always been a Type A personality: plan, plan, plaaaaan. But now, balancing a business and being a mom, I’m learning to release the fear of losing control. I’m learning to go with the flow—to be like water—while still holding space for my goals. I used to fear what would happen if things didn’t go exactly according to plan. Now, I’m embracing flexibility and trusting myself more, even when things feel uncertain or imperfect.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! I’m Jazmine, but most people know me as DJ 4.0. I’ve been DJing since 2011—back when you had to carry a Serato box and your CDJs and mixer separately (shoutout to the real ones who remember those days, lol).
While most kids dreamed of becoming firefighters, teachers, or even the president, I had a different vision—I wanted people to hear me. I fell in love with music early on because it felt like a language I could speak to the world. Music is universal, and DJing became my way of connecting, expressing, and empowering.
I got my start DJing in college, where everyone was chasing a 4.0 GPA—so the name stuck and became a brand all on its own. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with amazing brands like MAC, Nordstrom, Walmart, and even spin at major festivals. One of my proudest moments? Launching my own DJ truck—a mobile party on wheels!
Now, I’m entering a new chapter. I’m rebranding with a focus on weddings, women’s empowerment, faith-based events, and anything rooted in fun and joy. My mission is to create meaningful moments through music—whether it’s a bride’s walk down the aisle or a girl boss conference full of energy and inspiration. I’m all about good vibes, intentionality, and bringing your vision to life with the perfect soundtrack.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to stay in a box—that I could only do one thing, and definitely not multiple things at the same time. I thought women had to play small, be housewives, and dim their light. I didn’t see many examples of women doing powerful, bold, and unconventional things, so I thought that wasn’t for me.
Now? I don’t believe any of that. I believe in doing the hard things. I believe in doing what scares you. I believe in doing all the things—at the same damn time if that’s what your purpose calls for. Life isn’t perfect, but it’s ours. And we’re all living it for the first time—so why not go big, have fun, and break every limit placed on you?
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. I think everyone hits that point—especially right before the blessing shows up, lol. There have been so many moments when I’ve told myself, “Girl, just hang up this DJ career and go get a regular 9–5.” And sometimes, you actually do give up… only to realize shortly after, “Wait, what did I do that for?”
When I became a mom, I really did put everything on pause. I just wanted to be with this beautiful little human I created. He was (and still is) so sweet and precious that nothing else seemed to matter—not work, not money, nothing. I just wanted to be with him all day, every day.
But after a while, I started feeling like a part of me was fading away. It took about two years after giving birth for me to finally say, “Hold up… wait a minute!” I realized I didn’t have to choose between being a present mom and having the career I love. I could do both—it would just look different now. And that’s okay. I’m learning to give myself grace while still chasing the life I know I’m meant for. BUILD THAT VILLAGE!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes—100%! The public version of me is exactly who I am in real life. I don’t put on a show or try to be someone I’m not. What you see is what you get: I laugh, I joke, I smile, I show up as my full, authentic self. I don’t think of myself as high and mighty—just real. There’s no mystery here, just me being me, online and offline.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would immediately stop playing it small. I’d bet everything on living—fully, loudly, and unapologetically. I’d do all the things: party with the rockstars, write my son a thousand love notes, and make sure we had pictures to capture every moment of his life and our time together.
I’d stop doubting myself. I’d probably live life completely sober—because I’d want to feel every single moment and memory with full presence. And most importantly, I would stop listening to anyone’s negative remarks or opinions. Life’s too short to dim your light or live by someone else’s fears. I’d go all in—on love, joy, risk, purpose… everything.
